Help with MMM pinion/spur gear mesh - 04.25.2009, 09:32 PM

I just bolted my MMM2200kv on my Revo conversion.
I am in the process of making the pinion and spur gears mesh properly, since there is about a 1/4" gap between them both. I currently have a Jato 54t spur and the stock 18t pinion that came with the MMM. I am thinking about getting a 25t pinion, and hoping that it will be large enough to reach the spur gear. Is a 25t pinion much larger than an 18t? Do you think that it will be enough to reach the spur gear, or do you think that I'll also need a bigger spur gear? My LHS doesn't have anything over 17t at the moment so I can't just go there to find out. It seems that I'll have to order them, and I want it right the first time so that I won't have to keep reordering and waiting.

THat will put too much load on your motor- just get a larger spur.

Look at other revo setups like yours and see what they are geared. I would go with what BL boy said, get a larger spur.

You need to imagine every tooth you change on a spur as 1 "gear point" and every tooth on a pinion as 2 "gear points". Change the spur because it will change the final drive less.

Also, you probably already know this, but bigger pinion/smaller spur = less acceleration/more top speed. Smaller pinion/bigger spur = more acceleration/less top speed.

ya I know...I just wanted to avoid making the spur any larger because I might have to cut the chassis for clearance. So I guess I'll have to try a bigger spur..I'm wondering if a rcm mount will fit up if I used the 3905 transmission..I'll try to post a pic at the gap between the pin/spur
