Rustler vs. Rustler - 04.23.2009, 09:57 PM

My friends Rustler seems to spool up and run better on 2s than mine. He is running the VXL with 26/83 48 pitch gearing. I am running Medusa 36-50-3300 with a MMM and 0.8 gearing 17/56. His will wheelie and the motor spools up nice. Mine will not wheelie and sounds pale in comparison with his. Am I still overgeared? I went from a 19/56 to a 17/56 and cannot really tell too much of a difference in performance. Mine on 3s acts more like his with the wheelies and stuff on 2s.

Thanks

similar isn't the same! He could have a higher C rating or more mah with same C rating or just a better quality pack period. Besides all that wheelies get old anyways! Wheelies = broken parts....You can't steer when your wheels are in the air and have a tendency to hit things, at least I did. Check your esc settings, you may have the punch way up or something like that.

I would think you are undergeared. The medusa likes a low gear to really wake up, but it's still more of a 3s motor. Gear up quite a bit and see what happens. Remember this is a torquey 4 pole motor vs a small 2 pole VXL. They won't be the same even tho the kvs are close.

Both Polyquest 30c 5000mah. His motor just sounds stronger like it is spinning higher RPM's.

I was running 19/56 before and at times my motor was getting on the hot side but ESC and Pack was nice and cool. I was going to run the 21t I got with teh 56t spur but it would not mesh properly, too tight. Maybe I will get a smaller spur and try it with the 19t and 21t and see what it does as far as temps and stuff. I would just think if I was undergeared it would be really torquey down low or am I wrong?

I guess I just thought the Medusa would be a tad crazier than my buds VXL. I am kind of disappointed in it at this time. I think it is a gearing issue but I am having a hard time finding a happy setup for both 2s and 3s.

My punch control is at 70%, my start power is at medium, and my timing is at 10 degrees or normal. I will probably disable the punch control all together and go test it out.

Try a 54T spur and see what happens. A MedUsa motor is much better than a Feigao They do like to be geared up, I've seen 60mm MedUsa motors pushing E-Revos past 50 MPH on 4s lipo...

All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.

Yes I am running a 17t now. I also have a 19 and a 21. I will get a 54 and run it with the 21. The less gears on the spur should allow for more room to mesh it up good with the 21. I also disabled my punch. Not really sure why I had it so high at 70%.

Have you ran it since you disables the punch control?

No I just plugged it in now and disabled it. I will try it out tomorrow if the weather permits. I did just order a 54t spur too.

A 2 pole motor will spool up faster then a 4 pole motor iirc. That is one reason people love lehners. The vxl is also a different motor then the Medusa. KV ratings are not 100% accurate. Heck, they're all estimates. No two motors are exactly the same. The vxl could be close to 3600 and the medusa could be 3250...

The VXL is also operating closer to it's peak power. As mentioned before, the Meudsa should be a 3s motor and maybe even 4s in a rustler...
