feigao 9l VS stock titans??? - 04.24.2009, 06:51 PM

I can get ether a feigao 9l NIB for the same price as a new set of titans for my 3905 e-maxx...

would the feigao produce the same, or more power than the stock motors??

It wouldn't be a comparison...but you also need an esc for that motor, in addition to a BEC (unless you get an ESC with a built in BEC).

Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES

I'd say a 9L on 4s is about twice the speed and 3-4x the power in an E-Maxx.

I personally wouldn't run a 9l in a Emaxx. You'll have to gear way down to run cool and move that puppy! You'll want a motor around the 2000-2200kv range. Unless your Emaxx is super lightweight!!

About 5-6 years ago when BL first came around, we ran Emaxx's with a Feigao 8s, and boy was it hot! Then we ran L cans, and then XL's.

Think of the 9L as a hvmaxx in terms of power and speed- in all the videos I've seen they are very comparable. Only difference is the temp/ efficiency as pointed out, so careful gearing and a heatsink clamp is definately required.

Option 3: Get some banebot 550 motors- they are the same power and speed as stock titans, but much better built and will last more than 30-40 runs before melting or falling to bits. They also only cost $5.45 each...

Those cost $35 each- granted you get more power (hvmaxx 4.5 level if you're lucky), but they are rather large and heavy, plus require a special motor mount and new 5mm pinions... all adds up $$$...

I realy never liked the kd motors, if I was going to spend that much, I would go with a dewalt motor...

the 9l is $20 shipped... no, I'm not telln were

making a custom motor mount isn't a problem...

should I gear it for 35mph and goo from there??

low 30s....would be a good starting point. are you gonna run it on 3s or 4s? you could prolly run one GOOD 3s 5000 25c pack and mount the motor on the other side with a custom flm style mount and make it lightweight and then you cold prolly gear it for 35 safely and have decent temps.

I only have 2s batts, so 4s

this motor doesn't need to last more than a month or soo... its just till I can get an RX8 combo

I'm kinda geting conflicting arguments here, one says that its a ton more power than stock, but then you say to gear it for 30?? is it just a heat issue? or is it underpowerd??

2 540 size heatsinks and some thermal past cost <$10...

or am I better off buying a $30 dewalt motor?

The 9l is a decent motor, but will get hot. I would gear for around 30-333mph and keep an eye on motor temps. I successfully ran an older emaxx on a 380c 6l on 3s lipo back in the day, so you can do it on a 9l. Good heatsinking and airflow are a must...

if your gonna run 4s look for a 10L, and yea it will have alot more power than stock but to get a big ole emaxx going you need alot of motor and the higher you gear the harder it is on it.....the 9L is gonna fly to top speed 2 or 3 times as fast from zero to full speed as stock, but to keep temps and all in check youll need to gear it kinda low (30-33 like james said)

also the 9l on 4s will be pushing 40k rpms most feiagos dont like to go this fast (normally you try and keep the max rpm around 32k or less)

Some videos of an emaxx with the 9L and 4s lipo:

Just a tad bit more power than a pair of titans....
