LVC Query...... - 04.25.2009, 04:42 AM

I have been out playing this week quite a bit as the rain hasn't come yet, so I am making the most of our pretty good Autumn. I have done approximately 10 charges this week and changed the LVC to different voltage cut outs, but as this is my first brushless and have never used Lipos in the past.........pretty well much don't know what I am looking for. Does the LVC cut out power completely so there is no power going to the motor at all??????

When I set my LVC for my Hyperion 5000mah 4s 25C Lipo to 13.6 volts (3.4 per cell) I get a huge loss of power before the "LVC kicks in" (at that point she is turned off pretty quick), it does not cut out and because I don't know what to expect, I don't know if I am causing my Lipo any problems, even though the cells are at 3.4 when put back in for a charge. I have even set the LVC to 16 volts and still the truck runs until there is a noticeable drop in power. I am thinking that the MMM may have a little issue at this point after the 16 volt change?, but really would like to know what happens before and when the LVC kicks in or do you guys experience a loss in power aswell .

Cheers in advance

I like it.......I LIKE IT ALOT!!!!!!

From what I've heard, the esc tends to 'burp' when you hit lvc, then shuts down shortly afterwards if you keep running- personal experience may differ as there are various software revisions so not everyone may have the same type of cutoff ( I use an external lvc alarm as I dont like the idea of a hard cutoff).

I doubt very much you are hurting your lipos at all- seems like when you are hitting lvc the esc is reducing power as the voltage sags; if you let off the throttle, it will rebound and carry on at full tilt for a little longer I reckon until the voltage starts to sag again and the esc once again cuts power.

Anyways, 3.2v is pretty standard and perfectly safe, 3.4v if you have crappy lipos or are overly cautious about your lipos (neverous nelly?....). As it is, when I noticed my lipos starting to dropoff in terms of power/punch, they actually read ~3.7v still with no load on them. An eagletree logger would be the only way to see whats really happening when the lvc starts to kick in...
