MBX5-truggy conversion, little advise - 07.07.2009, 04:30 AM

hi all, back to try out another conversion. still trying to complete my list of parts. so far, the Mugen will be fitted with te following:

Tekin rx8 combo set
Tekno rc motor mount
RC Monster Slipperential
4s2p lipo 6000 mAh.
besides some other small parts, there are some things i would like to ask some advise on:

- is the internal BEC on the rx8 good enough, that i dont need an external one?

- witch pinion is best* ive seen the links to the calculators, but man, im struggling with the inputs.

- does rc-monster sell seperate fans? and maybe a small temp. gun? couldn't find them in the shop.

- im going for a build with only one battery tray this time. the lipo i have is no small one, but im looking for decent runtimes. seen some good 5300 lipo's in this store, i would think 4s is more then enough for my use, any advise on this would really help me out, because im affraid bigger lipos wil also give more power, witch isnt always best for track use.

* (pinion) im planning on track racing only, no speedruns, wheelieflips and all that. just looking for a good speed between 35 - 45 mph to go arround a track, above 45 mph is just too fast in my eyes. decent runtimes and cool electronics are what im opting for. and i can always use my transmitter to tone down the power a bit if it spins too much. i'm no rookie driver, but these BL conversions are bloody fast, and a real challenge to control.

any advise on this is very welcome.

which motor do you plan to run? 2050kv? or more?

I use 1700kv on 5S lipo with 46/14 gearing and is ok for smaller tracks
for more open tracks i use 46/15

internal BEC is ok for one strong servo (6V/5A)

5S 3300mah hyperions will give me 10minutes of racing runtime
5S 5000mah zippy flightmax give me 15minutes

I only race with my mugen

thanks for the servo-thing.

like i said, too much power can be adjusted down, whereas too little will have a chance in not satisfying my needs.

i currently run a feigao 8xl (2084kv i tought?) on a 4s 6000, with a quark monster pro at a bigscale track. didnt drive too much to really see what it can do, but it looked a bit too much. cant go full throttle on the straight...

as for the tekin: a higher kv means higer speeds, but also higher temps...
i tried brianG calculator but with a 1700kv it seems to do only in the 30+ mph region? and below that with my 4s setup.
seems a bit slow, but ive never seen a slow brushless before, haha.

Can i ask what your running temps are?

1700kv is too low on 4S. for 4S i would go for about 2200. (and you get about same RPM as 1700kv on 5S)

higher kv does not mean higher speeds. you can go as fast with lower kv motor with more voltage and it will stay cooler.

i dont measure temps :) its warm, but nothing serious. about same temps as my old neu 1512.

actually i think motor was about 60C after 6 minute run on the track (outside temp was 30C)
