How did I kill my servo? - 06.07.2009, 10:31 PM

I had a single Hitec HS-7955TG in my Traxxas E-revo & it died.I was running it my E-Revo(5605) Smc 9000 2s 28C lipo batteries with a CC Monster Mamba 2220 combo & they day before I noticed that that steering & forward speed would cut out(stop),then a second later everything went back to normal. The next run was fine & I their wasn`t any sign of the same probelm, but I noticed the bottom of the servo had melted(two little bubbles right above a eletonic component) & the servo was hot.Well the next run the servo died.
I`m thing it was user error(me) but I put two stock E-revo servos back in & their hasn`t been a problem since.

heres what my E-revo(5605) setup
-CC Mamba Monster 2200 combo
-SMC 9000mah 28c 2s lipo
-18 tooth pinion & 65 tooth spur
-Proline badlands on Rpm rims
-proline single servo arm
-Traxxas Heavy Duty Servo Saver Spring
-single Hitec Hs-7955TG servo
-Futaba 3PM FM radio & receiver(older crystal type radio)

Did you set up the endpoints on the servo? This is something that can kill a digital servo.

Most likely too much EPA. Send it to Hitec. They have an excellent warranty service. They repaired my 5955TG for free before.

No,only thing set was trim. The Mamba monster combo, lipo battery & the servo where all new & it was the first time I ran that stuff. What confuses me is that it would cut out & coast(no steering & speed).I would have the radio trigger at full reverse & It would get zero response fromit until it stopped moving & then it be fine again. This only happened with the Hitec servo & now everything runs fine with the stock Traxxas servos

If the servo was stressed enough, it could have been pulling enough current from the MMM's BEC to shut down the BEC, which would cause you to lose ALL signal. If this was the case, it's a good way to show how important proper EPA is.

I may have to try and send in my 5955TG that just up and died on me a little while ago. Has been a great servo. I don't have a receipt. Did you need one when you sent yours in Lito?

I've had a CC BEC stop working and overload a couple of inexpensive servo in the past. Didn't realize it was the cause until the bec started smoking and almost catch on fire itself. Don't seem to be a problem with yours if the other servos you installed are working fine. Just thought I would add that info in so the threadjacking wasn't as obvious. lol

Gee, I sent mine without a receipt and they were nice enough to do the repairs even without my receipt plus they also sent some banners for our onbase track. I don't know if being in the military stationed overseas influenced their decision to fix it for free even without the receipt though. I called them them before sending my broken servo. They later told me that it got burnt due to the moisture/water they found inside the case .

Thanks for the info. I'm going to give them a call and tell them how great all the servos I've had from them have worked and lasted. Honestly, I've had great luck with the thier products. Probably, will not get the overseas military discount, but I don't deserve one either.
