Quark vs. MM 5s setup - 06.13.2009, 03:20 PM

Hey all,
I'm changing around some setups to sell off one complete buggy and need some help on choosing what to keep.

I have too choose which way to go for my OFNA GTP It has a Medusa 60mm in it and I run 5s on everything I've got.
My esc choices are the MM or my Quark 125. I like the MM because of all it's awesomeness but kinda worry about running 5s through it all the time in a road car.

On the other side is the Quark which is super smooth and built for this voltage but not really repairable anymore and doesn't have the programmability of the MM.

As for the car being sold that one of these esc's is going in too, it is a MP777 Inferno with an 8xl geared for mid 40's on 5s so either esc is up to that task.

Which would you guys keep for my on road the MM or the Quark 125?

I share your feelings on the ease of programmability when it comes to Castle Products.

It's too bad you don't have a Mamba Monster. Then you would have the best of both worlds.

I like the MM, have several of them myself. I also have several Quark ESC's. The Quark 125B is a really good ESC and can handle alot of power.

I would probably go with the Quark. Look at it like this, once you get it set the way you want it, you're probably gonna leave it that way anyhow.

The Quark handles 5S VERY well, but it's a little glitchy on 6S.

5S on the MM is really pushing things and it may not live very long. Very reliable on 4S though, if you do the cap mod and run an external BEC.

For 5s, I'd go with the Quark. Some versions (early) of the MM can be run on 5s, but I wouldn't do it.

I've got a few MMM's but they're busy. I've ran my modded MM on 5s for a while now at buggy speeds and it's done well just unsure about pushing it.
I think I'll run the Quark then (unless BrianG is still willing to trade for a MMM) The only reason I was hesitating keeping the Quark was service/repair,but I guess if it ever quits I'll just have to get another MMM.
thanks guys

I would but I've already set stuff up for the ESCs I have. I still have two Quark 125B's that fun perfectly fine if it makes you feel any better...

Hey Brian,I was looking at your GTP and saw your running a 16-18 tooth pinion with 2050kv & 5s isn't kind of slow?
I've got the same setup and it comes out on your calc at 48mph.
With yours running 18t thats only 35, Aren't you finding it slow?

What are you using for the setup? I just did the calc and it comes out at 47mph on 16T, and ~51mph on 18T. Plenty fast for me on the surface I run.

Ooops Mine is Medusa 60-1600 w/ Quark on 5s geared 23/51 comes out at 48mph
When I entered your gearing I forgot to change the motor,my bad.
I used to run my 1512 2.5d(2050) with your same gearing fast enough for me.
What tires do you run? Have you tried foams?

lol, no problem.

I'm using stock tires, or should I say, I used to use stock tires. They shred way too easily, and if the rubber holds up, the interior foam rips apart. I want to try some new tires, but really want rubber for durability. I would like to find a solid rubber tire, or at least ones that are air filled. Foams makes sense for offroad I guess, but totally useless onroad.

By foams I'm talking about foam rubber
like these http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...-Dot-17mm-Soft
I have them in the hard compound, they aren't the "grabbiest" but they stay together.
I think I will try these soft ones and just wondered if you had any experience with them.
