I find it kinda funny but the general consensus at my track is that my truggy has entirely too much power! The nitro guys are impressed as hell with the power and driveability but say it's to much power and even the brushless buggy guys say I have to much power! I think they're jealous! If they're is a pile up at the end of a double I can clear the double and the mess, I did it tonight! I can overshoot any jump if I want and outrun just about anyone I want as well, although I lowered my gearing and outrunning them on the straight is a bit harder now but i'm quicker on the rest of the track.
FWIW my setup is a RC-Monster converted RC8T running a Tekno Neu 1515 2.5D on 5s RC-M 4500mah lipos. 50t associated plastic spur/14t pinion
I can agree that I need to learn to drive better but I have made tons of progress since my first truggy race 4/30/09. As of tonight they have grouped all 1/8 electric into one class, so I'm now running against the buggies instead of the nitro truggies. Tonight I took 3rd after qualifying 4th against some top notch drivers.
That gearing is fine I run 15/48 on my brushless 8ight-t (1515 2.5d w/ 5s 5k packs) , and I run 14/48 on my 8ight-e w/ Medusa 2000kv, 4s 5k packs. Zero speed issues and now that they are tuned a bit better even faster than before! I hope to be hitting 29sec laps on thursday night
31 second laps where the fastest laps of Monday night. I was turning 33's. They wound up bunching all electric 1/8, buggu and truggy, together. Apparently they think we can't make more than 10 min mains! I can easily do a 15 minute main, 16 maybe. I gotta freshen my diffs and shocks but otherwise ready for Thursday as long as Lake Ontario doesn't decide to fall outta the sky again!!!
Big crowd? I wanted to come.. but two nights away from the family is pushing it... lol I'd be getting my rear kicked by the wife :) Last I looked it was set for clear weather, xross fingers... enough rain for a while already! I run two classes so they have to stick my truggy w/ the nitro's (shh I run both just for that reason ;)
EDIT: KILLING ME!!! Rain is up to 50% chance now for 7-12pm on thursday night!! I hope that pushes back, blah!
Too much power!? In other words, u r making nitro look bad. I run an Rc8 with a 2.5d on 6s at the track. As long as u can stay on the track at least 70% of the time, its not overpowered.
I would be making them look real bad if I was a better driver. Some of the guys are extremely good and are sponsored. Good enough to make A-mains in the proseries race. So when I have been holding my own against them and this is my first season of racing I guess you could say I'm making them look bad.
I just wanted a reliable setup that runs cool enough for my liking
Well thats what some of our local nitro guys are realizing about the Electrics, besides the massive power, is their reliablilty. Get your setup right from the start and enjoy racing, and finishing races. 2 guys on a local team particularly found this out at a recent race. They were Nitro to the bones and said batteries are for flashlights... Well both of the purchase a Tekno V3 kit for their D8's and RC8's along with MMM combos. They realized at their last nitro race that 12 out of 12 electrics finished the race, while 7 out of 12 nitros finished the race(at most 7).
We even made a Youtube video laughing at one nitro to the bone guy after he converted his D8T with a RC-M motor ount and tray. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Bc8Ch2feeA
