My 1/8 8ight brushless and 1/8 CRT brushless :D - 06.24.2009, 05:55 PM

first my 8ight, Mamba monster esc - medusa 36-60-2000 motor - Ace 1015 steering servo - Spektrum DX3 radio gear

16T pinion currently running with the stock spur gear because i am waiting for modelsport to get the kyosho o rings in stock so i can run the plastic kyosho 46T spur. the medusa really needs a clamping heatsink to keeps the temps down a bit.

next my CRT, Mamba monster 2200kv combo - Ace 1015 steering servo - Spektrum DX3 radio gear
it's the full pro car with fiorani hubs and proline bad lands, i am just waiting on some Bow Tie LPR's and might get into a bit of racing

i am using the kyosho 46T plastic spur gear and a 12T pinion. temperatures are very good the esc and motor are both only ~ 110F after 30 minutes of running. i have an enerland 5s 6000mah lipo on the way for some serious bashing but at the moment on 4s it does about 45mph

the CRT is definately quicker and more fun than the 8ight and is certainly alot stronger but the 8ight has much better handiling and the runtimes are better as it weighs alot less ;)

i should hopefully be getting 4 of the turginy 5000mah 14.8v lipos from hobbycity soon and will update this thread as i change the cars setup and i should hopefully get some vids if i can get a cable for the video camera ^_^

so what do you reckon?

the wires get fairly hot about 100F on the CRT what do you think could cause this?

To many amps. You should try a Higher Voltage/Lower KV set up.

It could also just be the heat from the motor and ESC diffusing into the wires.

Nice buggy and truggy.

the bodyshell is on the whole time so it does start to heat up inside...
the 5.5mm connectors get quite hot but the 10 guage wire from the esc to them remains only warm so i think it is heat coming from the esc causing them to heat up

Hot wires or connectors points to a poor or bad connection somewhere.

that truggy look fimiliar! it is normal for the wire to get warm as there the ones traveling the current, and 100 degrees is not bad, but man that is one honkin fan on the motor!

hmmm i don't know why
did you ever problems with the plastic spur because i have just stripped the 2nd one. i was using the enerland 5s lipo so i think the power from the motor caused it to shred but at £7 a pop they are quite expensive

i ran the CRT today, lost the RC-M 13T pinion lol so i used a 12T pinion
on 4s it was very boring but good temps
on 5s it was quick and very torquey motor ended up about 170-175 how the hell do i get the temps down i would have thought 12/62 was very low gearing
esc ended on about 145 and the enrland 6K 5s lipo at about 125-130 (is that too high)
basically i am not too worried about speed i just want the setup to last because i think the temps are too high... i was going to run 5s in the truggy (about to order 2 5s packs) and in the losi i was going to use 4s (again i am just about to order 2 zippy packs)
so what gearing do you guys suggest? should the lipo be that hot?
also at the end of the run when i go to balance the pack 3 of the cells are at ~ 3.46V whereas 1 is at ~3.7V and one is at ~3.20V why are the voltages so different?

Hmm... 12/62 on 5s is only about 42-45mph. I'm not sure why the temperatures being high. Were the tires unloading more than normal from the extra power? 170-175 isn't all that bad. I wouldn't go any higher than that tho.

Just be sure to balance charge those cells every charge!

what do you mean by unloading?
i can't understand it either when i was running with 4s 5K 20C lipos they got to 133F i just don't understand it
