CC BEC done - 03.31.2010, 06:18 PM

i bought the CC BEC for my hitec 7950th servo and set it to 7.2v with my castle link. im running 2x 2s 5000mah 40c thunder power lipos with the stock traxxas 4 channel 2.4ghz radio. i had the BEC installed at my LHS by the same guy that i have solder all my rc stuff. i know the connection to the batts are good cuz the bec gets hot. and i know im not over powering the bec cuz its rated to 9v. i have only ran the truck with that bec 4 times, about 5-10 minutes each time and it has worked great until now. all the sudden the truck stopped, wheels stuck turned, not responsive. i opened the rx box and had no light on the rx. so im guessing i gotta send it in and wait for a new one rather than just exchanging it at my LHS... but i only hear good things about CC customer service so it should be a hastle right, besides the hastle of my brand new bec going fart....

the servos working tells me the BEC is fine. your ESC or the connections to your ESC is the problem. Did the guy remove the red (+) lead of the PWM coming from the ESC ?

i didnt say the servo works, cuz it doesnt, the truck stopped with the wheels stuck turned. he soldered the BEC wired at the trx connectors.

Test the servo with a different RX and power source and see if it is working or not.

Did you or the lhs guy remove the red wire from the esc's rx lead/plug to disable the built-in BEC? Im assuming the CC BEC is plugged into the rx, so the servo draws its power from there right? I would check the rx, bec and servo seperately to make sure it is actually the CC BEC thats crapped out though, just to be certain.

Observation: you have 'rc technician' in your avatar, yet you rely on an lhs guy to do your soldering for you- I love irony...

I hate soldering, and usually if I buy the parts from there they'll do it for free so why not. The red wire is pulled to eliminate the internal bec and when I reconnect it everything works just fine. I did some trouble shooting before I posted ( remember, RC technician ). Its the bec.

now my esc stopped working... MMM. i went to drive the truck, first time since removing the BEC and i got a good minute outta her before she just stopped. no responce from the esc, no power, no smoke. switch checked out good, lipos are charged, power wires are good. i dont wanna take the esc apart cuz i dont wanna void the warranty. this is pretty ridiculous. i just wanna good run for once this season!! what should i try? if the BEC died one run, and the ESC the next its possible there is something bigger going on. what?

Must be those RC gremlins again... Sometimes if you ignore them they just go away.

A less power hungry servo seems like the best solution, and check your endpoints just incase.
