Need ideas for new brushless setup! - 07.07.2009, 07:21 PM

I bought Linc Pimp's 1/8 buggy suspended FLM pede and am trying to figure out a good motor/controller combo for it.

I have an FLM rustler (I plan to sell) that I run a VXL motor and a Mamba Max controller on 3s. The power is good BUT I am planning on running pretty big tires on the 1/8 buggy pede (probably the Badlands MT tires which are 5.8 inches tall/ 2.5 wide). I am worried I will burn up the MM/ VXL motor pretty quick trying to get full runs out of the truck with tires that big.

I only have 3s packs so I would prefer something that runs well on 3s so I dont have to get new packs.

What is a cheap setup for me to run? Maybe a used MMM with a 9XL? What would 3s be like on this setup? Should I go with a higher turn motor since I want to only run 11.1 volts throguh it? I used to run a 9xl with a warrior 9920 on my E-revo a few years back and I remember it had pretty good power (but that was on 16.8 volts of NIMH)

What about one of novaks big sensored systems? Like the Novak HP Pro 7.5T? I am only considering this because of it being sensored.

I want something really torquey but also controllable at both low and high RPM. I dont really plan to "Crawl" per say but sometimes I like to do some 2-5mph stuff over rocks and stuff and dont want a setup that is going to cog or be choppy down low.

Here is a pic with two different sets of tires on it. The Komodo's are 4.4 tall and the Ofna stadium tires are 4.9 tall (so the tires I will be putting on it will be 1 inch wider and 1 inch taller than those ofna stadium tires).

How about a 50 series 3300kv medusa w/ a mm or the new mm pro when it comes out

1. MBX-6 T8 1900KV, RX8 ON 4S
2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S
5. TEN T 2650 T8, MMP ON 3S

Do you think 3300kv would be best on 3s for a 2wd truck that weighs roughly 6 pounds? I know lower KV is better for torque but I want to make sure the 11.1 volts I would be running would be efficient for the motor.

Do you think I could run a 9xl with the MM on 3s without problems? The 50 series medusa would be ok on the MM as well? That would save me from having to get a new controller (unless I decide to pick up a used MMM and sell the vxl motor/MM on my FLM rustler I have so I can sell it as a RTR).

Also, I have a friend selling a NEU 1512 2y from his BL revo. I am not to familiar with the NEU series (always have been out of my price range lol) so not sure what the proper voltage input this would work with? Would this be an OK option to run on 3s if he wants to sell it cheap?

The 36-50-3300 is your best bet, the 9xl will work if you already have it. If not, shell out the couple bucks more for the medusa.

Yeah, I would go with a 36-50-3300 or a 36-60-3100, both on 3s. The 60mm version will stay cooler and tolerate less than ideal gearing a little better. But either one will be fine.

x2. I use a 50mm on my .5. Works well. The Pede is quite a bit heavier, but 2wd, so can't put the power down the same way. The 60mm is quite capable of throwing around a buggy or erevo, so would do well in your truck.

3300 on 3s is nice. (I do 2200 on 4S)
