Hot swapping of batteries - anyone have done that? - 09.02.2009, 05:25 AM

Hi there

I've been racing with my brushless truggy for some time 6 - 8 mins qualifieres 6 - 10 min mains.
I had a chance to race with nitros in 20minutes main. It was completely different racing experience. In 6 minutes there is one mistake or hit from other racer and there is not chance how to catch up. 20minutes were absolutely perfect.
I had to change batteries and it took about 40seconds (take of body, swap battery, put it back) ever since I've been thinkink all over again about some hotswapping device to be able to swap battery really fast, probably together with Mike's tray.

I am walking around, observing that system that holds ski boot on ski, or that system that keeps biker shoes on bike pedals... so far I could find anything that could be
a, light enough
b, strong enough
c, very easy to fast swap it...

anybody got any ideas or maybe even experience with system like that?

I did some CAD drawings for a quick release system, but couldn't find anyone who wanted to produce it. They're under the general brushless thread.

EDIT:

Here it is!

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

Maybe we have to wait till some manufacturer comes up with solution.

In my opinion it has to:
-release with one click/turn/etc
-it has to have integrated battery connectors
-no need for flipping/turning car
-no need to take body off
-light

Ug, this has been talked about tons of times and there is still NOTHING that works. Very frustrating. I have a sad feeling until someone like Losi makes something there won't be a standard. There should be and there needs to be...

Not ony is there no standard but there is no non-standard either... There is simply nothing available other than battery trays and straps.

This issue has been tossed around for years. Since the current standard 1/8th Electric racing uses 10 minute mains, there is nothing to motivate manufacturers to produce such a solution for battery quick pits.

Maybe RCM is working on such a solution?
