Lightest Buggy? - 12.31.2008, 03:02 PM

I was just curious about the weight of the buggies out there and can't seem to find consistend info on them. Most of all I was wondering what the weight of the rolling chassis for each is? Anybody have info on that?

I havent seen anyone post anything lighter than the 808 yet. Its about as light as they come. Here are 2 pictures from when I first built it. One Picture without battery but otherwise ready to run and one wih a 4300mah 5s battery in it.

W/ 5s 4300mah battery (RTR)

No battery but otherwise RTR

I can't decide if its more fun

Ok, I'll start answering my own questions

Associated RC8: 3361 grams (w/o tires) - anyone know what a set of tires weighs?

jhautz - sweet buggy! Did you get the weight of it as just a roller? I think it would be cool to put up all the different buggies in their roller form and what the weight is.

No... Only took the weights after doing the conversion. Sorry.

The roller weight is subjective too. Once you remove all of the "nitro" stuff the battery trays and motor mounts should all just about equal out in the end. You just need to make sure all of them are taking into account the same stuff.

Ok, here's what I've found so far:

RC8: 3629g = 8lbs
D8: 3401g = 7.5lbs
808: 3250g = 7.16lbs
MBX6: 3370g = 7.4lbs
MBX5: 3500g = 7.7lbs
ZMXB-8: 3350g = 7.4lbs

That's all I can find so far - Losi doesn't have specs on their 8ight or 8ight 2.0 and neither does Jammin on the X1 or X2. Looks like jhautz is right so far!

What weight is too light? Yeah, it's nice to have a light buggy for better runtime and handling, but on the track, don't you want some weight for traction?

I totally agree - I should have made the title of this thread more about the weight of all buggies . . . not just about the lightest.

My biggest intent was to have all the different weights in one place for reference.

Oh, I see. The tone of the thread seemed like you were after a weightless vehicle.

No, nothing like that. Just something I've always wondered about - the different weights of the buggies out there. I really find it interesting that Losi and Jammin don't list the weight of their buggies.

as long as it weights more than a 1/10 scale 2wd buggy it should have more than enuff traction. keep in mind your wing is adding down force to increase traction too

we agrue about weight all the time in drag racing, i honestly think there isn't a point where you can be too lite, ever see a smart diablo

there also comes a point where you sacrifice durability for light weight, i'd rather have durable buggy than a featherweight buggy

i totaly agree with you, but also keep in mind that mass can directly affect durability
