Converted X1 CR - 11.28.2009, 06:13 PM

I bought the roller prior to leaving for Hong Kong last October and finally got around to finishing up the conversion. I use Castle's conversion kit along wiht my TeknoRC neu 1515 1Y.

Here are the pictures:

Before the conversion:

CC conversion kit:

After the clean up:

I used my spare 48T lightened Kyosho spur gear:

Mounted the motor mount:

I drilled and tapped the ESC mount. I'll have one made better when I go back to the ship.

Using the included 13T mod1 pinion did not work well due to the size of the motor. I had to put 3mm spacers underneath the ESC mount so the motor can clear it. This was the refurb ESC I bought from Castle back in August. The power wires were soldered into the bullet probably by someone who does not really want to do it.

Turned the CC 6.5mm bullets into angled ones by enlarging the hole on the side. Turned up pretty well .

I installed this little plastic screen on top of the fan. It's held in place by the traxxas ESC mount.

The final product:

Overall, I like the simplicity of the CC conversion kit. However, the battery holders are kind of flimsy for my liking. They are soft and bends easily.

This buggy is for my son and he already loves running it when we did the optest yesterday.

He sure is. This is in addition to his supermaxx which he doesn't want to drive because f the nitro engine in it. Just something to keep him motivated in getting good grades. So far, straight A's except for Art . He said he does not like what teacher wants him to do. He can draw comic characters with ease since he was 4 years old. He's almost ten now.

My daughter is almost 11 and if she makes the honor roll for the entire year, I told her that I would buy her a truggy of her choice in kit form so we can put it together.

Nice clean layout you got there George. I'm just a bit sceptical about the speed controller on top of the center diff. I've seen quite a few conversions where guys did that as well. I just think it makes the esc way too vulnerable. If you have a hard crash, the first thing thats going to get hit is the esc. Does anyone else think like I do?
Anyway, nice looking setup george. I really like the radio box too. Pity its not an xray...

The ESC has taken a beating already with the way he drives. He's trying to learn how to jump it and there were already a lot of times when the truck landed on it's lid. I just have to make sure the body is on or else I'd be needing a new ESC.

The radio box was a spare I had laying in my parts bin .

I put my esc behind the battery. Reckon it should be safe there.
Here's a photo:

I had the car out on the track for the first time 2 weeks ago, and got it around the track faster than I could for a whole year as a nitro. Man it was fun!

I'm just waiting on some 4S batts and a different battery tray.

Another shot from above:

This sunday is our last race day for the year, so I'll clean the car afterwards.

So you don't run the buggy then george? How does it handle?
