Convert you Dx2.0 to a dx3.0 free - 12.15.2009, 08:57 AM

Was searching around and ended up finding this neat little trick. The only difference between the 2.0 and the 3.0 is the placement of one 1ohm resistor.

By removing this resistor entirely you gain the computer features of the 3.0
-4 model memory
-Model naming

Features like
-Deadbanding (for those poor nitros)
-exponential curves
-Adjustable frame rate
- and the list goes on

By taking that same resistor and moving it to a different spot on the board you get the 3rd channel.

I wanted the four model memory and didnt have a soldering iron tip fine enough to resolder the resistor to the board so i just plucked it off with a screwdriver so my radio has all the computer features of the 3.0

Quote:
Spektrum DX2.0 to DX3.0 conversion

By following this tutorial your DX2.0 will get all functions of the DX3.0. (3 channels, 4-model memory)
To convert the DX2.0 to a DX3.0, all you have to do is add a single (SMD) resistor, and remove one if you want the 4-model memory.
It has to be a 1K Ohm (that is 1.000 Ohm) SMD resistor, as shown here. (Dutch website)

Photo print DX3.0

Photo print DX2.0

The spot where you have to add the resistor:

The spot is marked with 'R43'.

The spot where you have to remove the resistor:

This spot is marked with 'R36'.

When the resistor has been added and the transmitter is switched on for the first time, you will hear a long (and quite annoying) beep and see an error on the display,
because of the extra functions. By switching it off and then on again all DX3.0 functions will be available.
After the conversion all settings are reset, so it might be useful writing them down before converting.

Thats cool... May have to try that... Anybody know where I can can a new antenna (wire, mast and all) for a 2.0? My kid knocked my radio outta the back of the truck last bash session and the antenna broke off tearing the wire in half... Oopsie!

So that's what all the fuss was about...

Good luck with that. Had the same thing happen a year ago on my 3.0, but it was the plastic threaded portion that broke. The wire stayed intact.
I called Spektrum, and their wonderful customer service guy told me that I had to send it in for them to repair - If I tried to repair it myself, I WOULD void my warranty because the installation of the antenna is VERY critical to the performance of the radio (the warranty wouldn't cover the cost of the repairing the antenna BTW). Price, minimum 75 dollars, plus parts, plus shipping.
I took the thing apart, and the antenna is held on by a nut on a post. I put it back in place, superglued the plastic that broke, and its run great ever since.

Really? That sucks, because in the UK you can get the antenna and they even allow you to replace it yourself, it's about £3.99. Same thing happened with my radio, so we called Horizon UK (used to be Helger Racing) and got a new one sent through (I work at the LHS). I don't know whether the fact that we're a shop helps, but they certainly don't seem to mind user repairs - it is only an antenna, and a small plug on the back of the PCB.

Not quite the 3.99 that Marvin mentions, but I believe this antenna is the same one used in the DX 2.0 and 3.0

When I got mine (though that was around 10 months ago, they were £3.99 (GBP) ~ which at the time, the exchange rate was around 2 USD to 1 GBP, so that's $8 already. Add the recentish price rises, and you have the $10

how do you activate the 3rd channel? Do you have to add a switch?

no the button is already there on the DX2 but on the DX2.0 it only has the option to give you more steering lock or nothing. the DX3.0 has both of thoes options + the 3rd channel.
