Havoc heat sink Mod.

Havoc heat sink Mod. - 12.14.2009, 01:25 PM

Yea I know this shot my warranty in the Butt But my Havoc spec. esc just wouldn't fit under my 1/12th scale GT body. After asking Novak if they made a shorter heat sink and they do not. Although they did responded very quickly So being the hobbyist that I am I took it upon myself and removed the sink and inverted my handy belt sander while holding the heat sink with a pair of slip jaw pliers ground off a little over half of the fins on the sink. After grinding off the fins I took the sink to the buffing wheel and polished it up. Looks great and now fit's under the body I also removed the receiver plug from the wire and soldiered the wire on to the bottom of the pc board.

George, you are a genius!

This is exactly how we will be altering our existing Havoc HSs to offer low-profile HSs as an accessory for our Havoc 1S and 2S escs. I just saw the prototype last week.

If they are popular, we may do the tooling and have them made in quantity, or even offer a special Havoc 1S esc w/ the LP heat sink. When we had the GTB 4 Cell version esc, (with the cooling plate installed) we soldered the input harness and fan harness to give it a lower profile.

Another accessory we are developing is a TransCap module for use with spec wind motors. The new module seems to be @60% of the vol of the existing module, which is maximized for use with low wind motors.

This module features a flat bottom, which will make installation easier; parts-wise, it costs slightly more than the current one.

Another modification I personally would like to see is to have the FETs facing down and attached to a heatspreader. If using a traditional heatsink, it can be attached to the heatspreader easily enough. But for people using aluminum chassis, you could attach the heatspreader part of the ESC directly to the chassis and use all that surface area while making the system as low profile as possible.
