Gday again,
This is my second CC's project. I swapped my Nuova Faor S501 bike for this car and another car I will write about later.
The kit is the Tamiya F104 Pro. Direct drive chassis, fully ball raced and very nice. The car came stock with a Mabuchi 540 type J motor, which I beleive is plenty quick for these cars!! I'm using Castles Mamba Max Pro with the 5700kv motor. Battery is Zippy lipo 2s - 3000MaH @ 30c. It is similar size to a 6 cell NiMh pack. Starting the gearing on 25/104. I'm also using the Lumifly Lighting system, running a single red strobe at the rear, like the real F1's do in bad conditions. The kit came with foams, but I found some rubber tyres to practice as I will be bashing first on the courts.
I have not owned and driven a 2wd car since the days of the Tamiya Frog when I was a pimply faced kid. I have not had the chance to drive it yet, but I am more excited about this than any other car setup.
I hope there are some F1 fans on here. If so, I would like to see your setups too.
BTW, both my mate and I swore blind we would leave these F1's stock, but we just couldn't.

64p spur and pinion? I hope they hold up to brushless power

Should hold up fine since the tires will constantly break loose anyways... 'Won't be much strain on the gears if they're spinning.

Good job fitting it all under that body!

Hi _paralyzed_,
Instructions say 25T.04 & 104T.04. Pinion is steel and the spur is the same hard plastic as the Landmax spur. Cannot remember what the material is called, but it's very strong.

I will be experimenting with the Pro's punch control for sure. Car weighs 1045 grams, with battery. The MMP was fitted without the sidepods on the F1 too.

Shots of the F1 with foams on. Also, if you look hard, you can see the tiny led mounted on the second rear wing. It can strobe or remain on. Plugs into the 3rd ch on the rx.
My r/c mates are lazy, but I need them to drive the cars. They can drive well, some are racers, but they simply cannot film for crap!!! So give me some time and I'll get a video up for anyone that is interested.

Looks ganster!

I had a f103gt, and "tried" to run it with a feigao 540can7s motor on 2s lipo. It was geared for 90, but torqued so much that I could not keep it straight over 40mph. Way too much power, that same motor got 65mph out of an emaxx on 3s lipo before the maxamps let go!!! Have fun!!!

Well mate, I have adopted you as my F1 source in this forum. I have read that I will achieve mighty speeds with this car. I can't get my head around these online speed calculators. Enter this, that, blah blah. Nothing is there that I own? Either says hoops is doing 2.3mph or 1200mph. Anyway, I have heard RWD/2WD is simply the best fun, as you say. After the insane speed runs, I would like a very smart handling F104 Pro car though. Whether it be gears, software, gyro whatever?

thats is crazy. my RSPro with 17.5t redline is more than enough to power my F1 indoors :)

This thing looks awesome! I always liked the F1's from Tamiya, but never heard that much of them. Maybe it will grow in the future as HPI recently came up with a F1.

Would really like to see a vid of it :)

I love F1 too, I have a Tamiya F201 which has fully independent pushrod suspension front and rear with slipper clutch ,4 wheel drive and ball diffs front and rear, it's powered by a mamba 7700 system on 2s1p 2300mAh A123 and it weighs 1308g with carbon chassis, lots of alloy and ballraces on everything, the suspension and steering was quite sloppy as it came but 2 packs of orange 'O'rings later its much more precise. It has MUCH more power than any tyres can cope with I use Tamiya type B tyres for drifting, and pit schmitsu (sp) soft tyres for grip style driving although its easy to drift with these too I try my hardest to refrain as it eats a set of these tyres in a run if it get too heavy on the throttle stick for a whole battery.

Thanks Byte. Yep, I have seen the HPI F1. Tamiya also just released the F60 F1. Not a pro kit, but Ferrari body!

Your car looks great. I did not know Tamiya made a 4wd F1. I know of the Kyosho F Ten, which was 4wd. Similar suspension setup to your F201. That must be a hoot to drive with 7700? It is very interesting for me to see the layouts of different F1's. Nice photos too and I like the tyres you have on it.
The F104 rear uses a T bar & a friction damper with one shock. The fronts are independent tiny springs. There is a blue adjuster nut that tightens or loosens for track surface. The only optional part purchased for the kit was the ali motor mount. It has the graphite like yours too, double deck. The esc or the rx can be swung out like doors to get the 2s pack in. I chose the rx to move and not the MMP. The sidepods on your F1 look functional? I ruined mine, rushing!
BTW - I ordered my MMP from Tower when AU$ was near 1:1 with US$. I am in Australia. Usual quick normal post from Tower. I noticed a coupon in the box for a free CC link. I snail mailed it from Sydney to Kansas, is it??? Got a link in 2 weeks. So happy with Castle.
