im tired of my nitro revo -
02.06.2010, 01:14 PM
hey yall, pulled out the revo today, thought it would be fun to drive in the snow for a while, well i cant get it to tune worth a damn even though this was the most reliable nitro i've had (not to mention i've got 400$ in the nitro stuff alone),so,how much is it for a decent brushless conversion for a revo 3.3 and who wants to buy a barely broken in picco .26 that i am seemingly unable to tune so i can finally get to use my RC's .i love nitro, but i am just tired of tuning.im going in the navy in about 3-4 months after i graduate and i feel like im running out of time and i just want to drive,no tuning, fuel, leaking fuel.--josh
ok,rant over, time to look at freakin fleabay for cheap mambas....

nitros rarely tune well in cold temps. that is why people mainly run them in the summer. i just sold my last nitro (flm t-maxx) earlier this week and it was a little tough to tune even though it is 40F here. it stays tuned really nice over 50F though. nitros just tune better when it's warm.
i think your best bet is to sell the revo and buy a used e-revo. for the money you have to spend to get your revo brushless-ready even without the motor and esc, you could have already been half way to getting a MMM combo. besides, the e-revo has better battery trays and diffs. an e-revo will also be lighter than a nitro revo conversion.
since there is no demand for nitros here, i recommend selling the revo on either fleabay or rctech.
edit: have you fixed the baja yet? gassers run best in winter. the higher oxygen content in the air gives the engines a little boost.
They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

I think a conversion would be a good way to go. I always liked them at least...Anywho, if you want, I have a RC-M motor mount and Tekno battery tray I don't need anymore. Maybe we could work something out. PM me if your interested.

Your reasons listed above are the reasons I now have 4 nitro trucks converted to electric.
The best compliment you can get is someone saying that..." my truck can't pull wheelies on demand or accelerate that fast...and you get 15-18 mins. on a single battery!" and then their jaw does this
Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside
1. MBX-6 T8 1900KV, RX8 ON 4S
2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S
5. TEN T 2650 T8, MMP ON 3S

if anything, the flux motor is better because it has 12 mounting holes in the front instead of the normal 6. if you accidentally strip a hole, it isn't a big deal

Nitro's are a pain in cold weather. In my experience it is possible, but you usually have to run a glow plug that is 2 heat ranges hotter to get a halfway decent tune on it.

I say convert it! If the driveline has been upgraded to handle BL power, why not use it? Plus, used R/Cs have poor resale value. I personally like conversions since they are different and take a little bit of work. If you make all the custom parts yourself, you can be reasonably sure it is unique, which I personally prefer over have a carbon copy of what everyone else has.

Do a search on here. There are many many different build threads here to get ideas from.
I'll be re-doing a 2.5R conversion I did pretty soon.

i've looked over everything here and the conversion is going to happen,im selling the picco and all the nitro crap as i've got my baja to feed my 110 octane obsession.but so far a member on here sold me a tekno tray and a RCM motor mount.and i found a tork motor and a MMM ESC, looks im finally being converted to the brushless side! --josh

A cheap alternative on the Lipo side is the Turnigy, Zippy, and Rhino packs from hobbycity.com. Many here have tested and tried these packs and found them to be comparable or better than higher priced packs.
Stay away from MaxAmps at all costs!!!
