Decide my chargers - 03.28.2010, 07:17 PM

OK, so here is the deal. I haven't done anything with RCs for about 18 months now, so I am a little rusty on how things are now.

As of right now, I have a Duratrax Ice with LBA10 balancer, and a IMAX B5 charger (cheapy one I got when I bought my lipos)

I have a bunch of 3S1P 5000 MaH lipos, and will always buy 3S lipos.. (no room for a 6S pack, need to split the load)

My question is, what should I do for chargers?? Should I buy another Ice with LBA10 so I can have 2 of the same setup? OR should I look into buying a 6S capable charger and networking 2 LBA10s together so I can charge two 3S packs together while they charge?

Or can I go with a "HYPERION EOS0615I DUO" and charge 4 packs at the same time? (2 x 3s lipo on each port)

What is everyones opinion?

I see no real need or reason to buy all new chargers if your current ones are still working just fine. If you charge at 1C then they should both deliver 60-80 minute charge times, and since they both have balancers your lipos are being cared for as well as is possible with any charger, regardless of how fast or powerful it may be. Save your money, run what ya got

I have my doubts abouts the IMAX B5 (first one pooched, had to send it back on an RMA) and I have yet to use the new one.

I would just like to have a dual setup, that both do exactly the same thing (like have dual ICE's w/ LBA10s) or get a Hyperion Duo 3 and have my ice as backup.

Thanks for attempting to save me money, I appreciate it. After all the other things I've bought, I probably shouldn't worry about chargers right now.

I'm not sure if you've considered this, but you don't need a duo to charge two 3s packs at once. A y harness for the balance taps and the main leads will let you charge two 3s packs as one 6s. Thatas what I do on my 610i. And a single LBA10 can do 6s with the right tap so you just need a 6s capable charger. Unless all your packs are totally different ages, amount of runs, mah, etc then thats not possible on a single lba10 or on one side of a duo.

That is what i was thinking.

BUT, my ice only does 5s... so if I do a Duo, I could theoretically charge four of my packs at once.
