RCM Slayer Motor Mount vs Tekno Conversion Kit - 05.06.2010, 02:18 PM

Has anyone ever used Mike's motor mount to convert a Slayer? Looks like his part is only like $45, but then I'd need to buy a brace, cuz I don't have one. And then there is the Tekno Slayer Conversion kit, which is $100 and it has all kinds of stuff that comes with it. I don't really need the ESC mount or the battery tray, cuz my Slayer chassis (2.5) already has that stuff custom made on it. BUT, for the sake of "flow", I'd consider the kit anyway. Just curious on if anyone had any thoughts one way or another.

As a reviewer pointed out... with the RCM mount.. you can use pretty much whatever can you want... but the Tekno mount doesn't allow for that since the motor has to be able to fit thru the mount hole. That could be the deal breaker! I'm not planning on using the ElectriClutch, though the Tekno comes with it.

RCM's pix don't really show enough detail... So, is it saying I would need the brace, but NOT the Revo motor mount? Cuz I don't have one of those either.

Are the Slayer/Revo conversions sorta unbalanced due to the battery being mounted on the side like that?

Thanks!
Jason

mikes mount is great, i had the tekno mount, but i didnt like haveing to buy all my pinions from tekno for twice the price of mikes

teknos mount lets you use a clutch, mikes doesnt, the only plus to the clutch is its always slipping so the diffs and axels last longer but thats also the big problem with it, it eats clutch shoes for lunch and you never get full power

Thanks yet again! I think I'm gonna get Mike's mount and be done with it. In terms of balance, I think I'll run lipos on both sides, rather than one 4s on one side only. I'm gonna have to ditch the f/r biased brakes that I have, and the center diff too? If I want to that.

I can't recall what I was told on how to set this truck up for BL, since it has F/R biased breaks and a center diff. I don't quite get how to use servo braking over ESC braking? Turn off braking with Castle link? not mess with servo braking? And what about the center diff? I can still use that, BL or not right?

J

Use a "Y" connector for the esc and the brake servo, wire into radio, turn off motor brakes and motor reverse. Center diff should be fine.

Ok, that's right. Thanks.

I wonder if using these F/R brakes would be better than using ESC braking? I don't race, so maybe it doesn't matter? I figure that why not use it if I have it.
