Question New XRAY XT8 2009 Spec or Mugen MBX-6T for Brushless Basher...which one? - 05.01.2010, 04:35 PM

I know it sounds dumb, but I love carbon fiber, and they both have a ton on them, so I have narrowed it down to these two trucks...which one do you guys think would make the better brushless basher? I will be running either an MMM/2200kV or Tekin RX8/2250 Combo on 4S (4S 5000mah 40C 200A).

I think the pillow-ball suspension on the Mugen is a little more durable than the c-hub suspension on the XRAY, but is that enough to make the pick? What about all of the Hudy Spring-Steel on the XRAY...that stuff is just awesome, is that enough for that pick?

I really need your help on this one, I just can't decide!

Thanks in advance!

If your worried about the durability on the xray... dont. its about as bulletproof of a truck as there is.

Really you cant go wrong with either of those truck IMO. Both are great quality kits.

Cool deal, man, I really appreciate it. I have been leaning more towards the XRAY anyway, and you basically just made up my mind...thanks!

Plus, the XRAY even has a carbon-fiber Ackerman plate (steering drag-link), which the Mugen doesn't have (yes, I really am THAT addicted to CF...just look at my BL Revo 3.3, it's almost all CF)! I will even make CF dirt-guards for the rear arms, and anything else that can be made out of or changed to CF!

You really can't go wrong w/either kit. I own 3 different Mugen vehicles so I am partial to them, however, X-Ray is amongst the best kits on the market today as well

1. MBX-6 T8 1900KV, RX8 ON 4S
2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S
5. TEN T 2650 T8, MMP ON 3S

Rock on Swift, thanks for the pics, and the input...I really appreciate it!

I have spent the last few weeks going back and forth, reading, looking at pics, watching video, and any other info/data I could get on both trucks.

I am 99.99999% sure I am going to get the XRAY XT8 2009 Spec truggy, as well as the XRAY 808'10 buggy, and do like magman did and turn the buggy into an onroad car (I have been wanting one badly). It will have crazy 6S power, and be setup to run on smooth concrete, asphalt, pavement, and even dirt (clay) sometimes. I will most likely swap the buggy's chassis and center-drives out for the longer truggy chassis and center-drives for the added length to bring the buggy into a more scale look and run the more scale "long-wheelbase" bodies like the Corvette C6 body. I was going to get a 1/7 Ofna DM-1 Pro and convert it to brushless, but I really don't like the chassis/shock setup/look that much. I can convert the XRAY 808'10 shock towers and shocks to shorter versions to fit under an onroad body with no problems.

Have any of you owned, converted, or run one of the Ofna DM-1 Series cars, especially the 1/7 DM-1 Pro? Would it be smarter to go with it instead of converting a standard off-road buggy to onroad? I really don't like the DM-1, but sometimes it's about what works best, not what looks best.

Thanks again for everyone's help and input, and any help and input you give in the future, it really means a lot to me!

One other thing, since JConcepts doesn't make a Punisher body for the XRAY XT8 2009 Spec yet, does anyone know which other Punisher body will fit and look right?

Thanks in advance...

I have converted a DM1-Pro, for the price you will not get a better on road car any where. it runs a MMM 2200kv setup on 6s crazy speeds and handles really well. The only draw back form the DM1 is making a plate to mount the brake servo. But you can do what i did and buy a sheet of CF and cut your own plates out. The other alternative for fast electric on road is motonica.com. They make an electric version of their 1/8 on road race car. I also have a 6T, running a 1521 on 5 and 6s. Very Very Very good truck, durability and handling are off the chart good, there are also a lot of things you can do to the 6T to make them really light, BCE chassis, titanium hardware and turnbuckles alluminium drives and stand offs just to name a few. The RCM kit works really well also.

Here are fresh pictures of my XT8 with the JConcepts Punisher body for the MBX6T. Fits perfect if you use the MBX6T rear body mounts on the xray. Thats what I did anyway.
