Who makes the strongest/toughest pinions? - 11.09.2009, 01:19 PM

Allright, its time for an overhaul on "Frostbyte" and I was going through and stripping the truck down to its essential to look for wear and I was surprised to see what my stock 20T pinion gear had been worn down to.

Needless to say, the torque and power from even 4S is pretty amazing for it wear down like that. So I need to replace it with the strongest, toughest pinion I can buy that will last longer then the stock HPI one. I've heard lots about Robinson Racing but apparently Castle Creations also makes hardened pinions for their motors as well.

Thoughts, suggestions input would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to stay at 20T for a good balance of power, torque and speed.

I'd say go with Mike's pinions. They are hardened steel and i've purchased a couple and have yet to strip or break one.

what bore do you need on your pinions? RCMonster pinions from Mike are awsome. Well I like the ones I have a lot. Mike makes them in 5 mm bore in 32 pitch, mod .8 and mod 1. He also makes 8 mm bore pinions I think. Just check out the RC Monster store in the ''Gears/Tranny'' section.

Rcm pinions are the best. Better materials and better machining/hardening. I had a long conversation with Mike about his pinions.

Another +1 for Mikes, I've owned quite a few of them and they all work great.

I've had tons of pinions and I really like Mike's. I've only ever had one to wear quickly like that, and Mike hooked me up with a new one for a very good price.
Not to mention it supports the man who gives us such a nice place to hang out. ;)

I had a few wearing.
Not as bad as yours but well on there way.
I don't think I have had any of Mike's wear.
The spur may have went away fast.
Then again 12s has no mercy.

Peace!

I got some 20T for myself (just like the stocker). Pity I didn't order some 22T for that little extra speed.
