Lipo for bl set-up - 10.10.2010, 12:57 AM

Hi guys

On my recent E-maxx project, I am now changing the motor setup to a NeuCastle 1520 in stead of the Tekin t8/2000 kv. motor.

I will still use the RX8 esc, but now it is time to get the right lipos.

I have one 5s Hyperion G3 35/65c on 4200 mah. I guess it will do the job, but a 5s lipo on a Gorilla chassis, might not be the best solution, when talking weight distribution.

I also have two 2s lipos from flightmax (Zippy cells). These are on 5000 mah. and 40c continues. These were rather cheap, but I am a bit worried, if I can believe that they will provide the this system pulls out.

The Gorilla is rather heavy. You can see it in my signature, it is the G4 Gorilla. After these pictures were taken, I have added FLM arms, Mugen Mbx6T shocks and FLM diff cups are on their way, since the Traxxas bl-diffs doesn't fit the GARC diff cases.

On my mbx5T which is not all that different in weight to the Gorilla chassis set up, I run a 5s set up w/the 1520. you could do a 5s set up just buy 2 lower mah batts. and run them in a parallel set up. Or run a series setup w/2 3s batts

2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S
5. TEN T 2650 T8, MMP ON 3S

It doesn't necessarely have to be 5s lipo.

Actually I think I will by 2 x 3s lipos, but I am just wondering if I can go with the Zippy cells or I need to go with some Hyperion G3 or similar?

Zippies would do fine especially if running 2 separate batteries which would take the strain off of a one bat set up. I would do 30C batts for a 2 battery set up. My one 5s set up I use are all 40c Zippies and have had great luck with them

Great, I have 2 zippies on 40c. 2s though, but should be ok to start out with. Then I can allways get some 3s lipos later.

Seeing as you are over seas, the Zippies don't take 3-4 weeks to arrive like they do here in the US...go with them. The 1520 would be a beast on 6s if you decide to go that route.

Also, when running two batts together you don't need quite as high a C rating as if you were running a single batt set up. Nothing wrong with running a high C rated batt in a 2 batt set up though
