Connectors = cogging?? - 11.21.2010, 12:03 PM

I'm having a problem with a brand new schulze esc. My neu motor runs perfect when its on the stand, but as soon as I sit it on the ground, COGGING like CRAZY. I switched my timing and it seems to work best with 4 and 5 on softer, but it still coggs before it can take off. Just not enough.
I wonder if the fact that its a 149/200Amp esc and its a 4 pole motor has anything to do with it?
I was wondering if some better connectors might help. I use great planes bullet connectors right now. Any suggestions?

With those great planes bullet connectors.. do they engage and disengage fairly easily? Meaning, can you insert the plug and unplug it with little resistance? If so, I'd spread the pins out on the bullet connector a bit so that there is more positive contact.

Just to be sure, I replace EVERY connector and wire with a brand new one out the pack! They are "virgin" tight! lol... It has to be something else... What I dont know. I did read another thread and someone said schulze sometimes has trouble with start up with 4 pole motors. I have other schulze esc's that are lower amps (97/127) and they work "flawlessly". I'm totally lost....

Are all the settings on the more powerful esc the same as on the smaller esc that does work okay? If the settings match and the larger esc still wont work properly ( assuming its calibrated to the radio correctly and no settings have been adjusted ), then I'd say the esc is either faulty or incompatible- try another motor or see if schulze will inspect the esc. Chances are they wont find an issue ( make sure the test it with a 4 pole motor too ) & will blame you / your batts/wiring/radio/gearing etc... like they always do.

I'd sell the shulze an pickup an MMM XL when they are released shortly.

I believe you. I'm going to test it with my other motors and see if I see a difference. If not, I just got screwed out of over $400.00!
Also I am using a 3pk radio but I have the 2.4 system on it. Its connected to my other schulze esc's. I dont still have to calibrate this new one to the radio too do I? The book sais "for hrs receivers only".

I had a problem with my Spektrum and an old Schulze ESC.
I don't know if the 3PK has this framerate setting the Spektrum has, but that was a problem with mine.
The Schulze wouldn't work with the 5,5ms Spektrum recommends for use with digital servos.
Maybe there's something in that direction with your system too.

Every new esc needs to be calibrated to the radio, if thats what you mean- doesnt matter if all the escs are the same or not.

@JoFreak So what was your solution? Or did you ever get it to work right?

@suicideneil Ok maybe this is the main root of my problem. I can try to do that. I just dont really see what I can do since the schulze doesnt really have the stick travel set-up process like most other esc's. So do I just connect the cords to it and run the esc that way to calibrate it?

Buggered if I know, I would just follow the standard setup procedure- surely there must be a requirement to set the full throttle-neutral-full reverse points? These escs seem to be very basic compared to most others, in terms of how you program them & adjust the settings ( dip switches on a $400 esc?... ).
