Snow days - 12.27.2010, 07:03 PM

Well we finally got a little snow here in Korea. Woke up to about 3 inches and there is supposed to be a few more inches on the way later today. Already shovled the sidewalks, and dug out the new minivan at 0600 this morning. The kids will be thrilled when they wake up. Its only 0800 and school is still out for the holidays.

So whats your situation where you are located?

Must be nice when snow is still a novelty. I'm in the upper peninsula of Michigan and the snow just piles up all winter. This year hasn't been so bad, but still have a lot.

The cities of Houghton/Hancock are the home of Michigan Tech University where I went to school, and only a few hours north of where I live now. In 1978 about 390" of snow fell over the winter there!

Have about 8 inches here in New Jersey.

I went out in my 2001 Kia sportage 4x4 to a local parking lot with Eovnu87435ds driving a gmc envoy, and proceded to burn through a half a tank of gas drifting, doing donuts and having a grand ole' time.

Didnt get stuck once this little thing just floats through it..

Also pulled out a stuck ford escort. and did some drifts in and around town...

it has been a good day

I know what you mean. - 12.27.2010, 09:33 PM

I know what you mean. When I was growing up in Reading Pennsylvania in the 60's I still remember having snowfalls that were in the 3 to 4 foot range. It was a blast for me as a child, but my father was none too happy having to shovel our driveway. Now when a few inches fall the major cities seem to be dumfounded wondering why so much snow. Weather is just like everything else that runs in cycles. Meaning that every 15-25 years we get really big snowfalls. Plus the weather paterns shift with the winds. So what..

I also remember rainfalls that flooded low lying areas along the riverfront. BUT just like New Orleans people just keep rebuilding in the same areas ignoring the fact that they are still living in low lying areas. So I can only guess in their minds it will never flood again. One of my personal requirements for housing is that it has to be at least 30 feet above sea level.

Snowfall is always a situation that can be + or - depending on where you are viewing it from. For kids it can create happy memories that will last a lifetime. For adults it can create good or bad memories that will also last for many years. I try to look at each event as a possitive thing, and make the best of it. I am sore from shovling snow this morning, but a couple of hours at the Spa later today will melt away the pain and make it a great day for me. Plus my kids will have a blast playing in the snow.
