So Krawlin, Dude and 10Kman have me pretty motivated to slap brushless in one of my MGT's.

The goal is to get to a center diff, but I think due to funding I may have to use the MGT tranny for now...

I was wondering for a motor mount if I could use this:

I am looking to go with a Castle MMM combo or potentially a xerun 150A esc with a flux or castle motor..It is simply an issue of funding...Same as everyone I suspect, how can I get the most power for a big heavy truck at the best price. I'm a basher, so having the perfect racing gear is lost on my...

Really if that Savage motor mount would work on an MGT, I might have the funds to start the project....Provided an Emaxx sale goes through today....

Any advise appreciated. Really need help with motor mounts then when next batch of funding comes in, may need center doff mount help...

If funding is an issue, start looking for a second hand MMM/2200kv kit, or pick up the MMM used and a 1717 from the sale (still have them on there for $70!!!!) . Having Castle stuff, even if you have to pay for warranty repairs it's a better way to go IMHO :-)

I've got one of Mikes "universal diff/motor" mounts that I hope to use in a MGT center diff conversion at some point with a 1717 I got in the Castle clearance sale. The mounts are out of stock but if you get on the "notify me when this item is in stock" list and e-mail Mike, he may do a run of them.

^^the 1717 may be hard to get close enough to the spur.

Those mounts look like they would work much like 10kman's tekno mount, but you never know until you try.

A simple L mount out of angle aluminum, much like The Dude's LST mount would be a very simple and effective way to mount the motor. (It's been done) Then you can also raise the motor just a little to align the pinion closer to the center of the spur gear, which would move it as far away from the back of the tranny as possible.

An MMM is a much better choice than a xerun, and you can find MMM's just as cheap as the xerun.

Thanks _P_, I forgot to mention that I'm going to have to recess the two screws that hold the mount together just under the motor. It will be easy though, I'll just use a countersink bit I have ($8 90 degree carbide router bit) and switch to a flat head screw so it will sit flush and not impede the larger can 1717. Then I can run a small pinion if I want.

The pricing on ezrun has been making me mental....I do not get it at all. $50 one way or the other really does not matter all that much...

Here was my 'cheap' thinking....xerun 150A for about $115 and a Savage Flux motor off fleabay for $110 or so....So around $225 for setup...

Now if I can find the MMM for not much more it is a no brainer....

I just looked at the 1717....Good price, just have no idea about power. Is it comparable to the savage flux motors, which I do know are CC motors....

I only have been thinking about the flux mount if I could snag it cheap off fleabay, if not I am sure the Techno mount is fine and really not too expensive...

Do I need a special spur gear to mesh with a MGT clutch bell?

Ack, I mean special pinion to match the mgt spur....No clutch bell.....Geeeze, thinking nitro.....And backwards...LOL

Was looking at the techno RC elektri clutch and had me all goofed up in thinking.......

the 1717 is much more powerful than the flux motor. It is also larger in diameter, and would require a custom mount. Like stated above a simple L mount would work well.

Both the MGT clutch bell and spur gear are Mod1. Why are you going to use a clutch bell, and not a pinion gear?

I was thinking about using the techno elektri clutch....That had my mind all goofed up with what meshes to what...So if I keep the tranny, which I will at first, then I can either use my existing clutch bells from my nitro with the elektriclutch or just use a pinion gear...

I have to look at the L mount. I am sure I can make that.....

All I need to do is find a deal on a ESC....Is there a way to tell which MMM are V3?

I too thought about using the RCM universal center diff motor mount, but the issue with it is how it mounts and the mounting bolt pattern. The MGT chassis has an opening on the bottom deck of the chassis below the trans. If the mount pattern has the bolts too close together, there either wont be able material to drill the holes through, or the holes would be right on the edges of that opening. The alternative is to make that opening a bit bigger with some machine work (or a dremel), and use a separate plate to bolt the mount to, then bolt that plate to the chassis, preferably with more bolts (I'd do no less than 6 personally).

Another issue is that lower deck is rather thin, and to have a mount bolted to that results in unwanted flexing, I've been there done that with the first 3 versions of my center diff motor mount (original pieced together one, and 2 versions of my steel one). While it was not enough flex to cause issues for the short time I used each design, I didn't really care for it. I was only using a Tekin truggy motor too, if you plan on using a 1717 it would probably fatigue and eventually crack the lower deck of the chassis.

If I remember correctly, the MGT chassis is made of 5052 aluminum, which by it's design is very strong and would be major overkill to be made of anything else, but 5052 has lower strength than 6061 and 7075 grades that are the norm in the high end RC industry (softer as per the Rockwell and Brinell hardness scales), and it wasn't designed to have anything mounted directly to that lower deck. TheDude's motor mount (the french guy) is mounted to the bottom deck but also has tabs that bolt to the top deck for extra support, and mine is mounted only to the top deck.

Just something to consider, and don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying the RCM universal center diff motor mount is a bad product, it's just not the ideal product for an MGT center diff conversion IMO.

Here's a thread with a 1518 using the Tekno mount. Would work with a 1520 too. Not the 1717 as the diameter is too large, but Tekno might have a variation for the larger motor too.

He also I believe used the one way conversion and locked the tranny into 2nd gear.
