Can this charger http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKSY1&P=7 be used to charge a123 batteries? I know they are alot of better/newer chargers but I bought this charger few years back (in 2005). So I was wondering if this can still be used to charge a123..
Check the profile for Li-ion; if it says 3.3v nominal and/or 3.6-3.7v charged, then that is the needed setting.
Generally though Li-ion cells charge to the same voltage as lipos ( I think ), so it's no good in that case- a profile for LiFe/LiFepo4 is what to look out for.
A123's are charged to 3.6V with a resting voltage of 3.3. However, if need be you can charge them with the lipo profile, which is 4.2V. Resting voltage will be 3.3V still. You can charge a 6s1p A123 pack as a 5s1p Lipo pack. So that charger will work perfect if you have a 6cell A123 pack.
using the lipo mode is easy charge a123cells ......... you only need stop the charge when the cells arrive at 3.6v ......... I charged hundred of times my a123 packs using lipo mode.....
