Torque Control Question - 03.29.2011, 01:43 PM

I recently picked up a SCT/3800 combo and paired the 3800 motor with a Mamba Max I already was using in a Rustler. The motor is AWESOME with TONS of torque, in fact too much torque for a 2wd Stadium truck. So I did the motor test and enabled the torque control and set the value to 7.5 for a trial run. The torque was reduce but still too much but my ESC temps went up from ~120º to ~155º. Is this normal and will lowering the value to reduce torque more drive the ESC temps even higher?

your sig mentions a 5700kv motor. Did you change gearing to compensate for a lower kv? Perhaps you are undergeared and not presenting enough load to the motor?

Geared correctly the torque control shouldn't affect temps that drastically.

Yes the gearing was changed from 18/86 to 25/86 and then to what it is now 28/86 when the motor was changed. The motor is staying very cool, it is typically around 105º to 110º at the end of a 5000 mah 2s lipo. It is the temp of the ESC that I am a little concerned about as using the torque control feature in Castle Links seems to be driving it up and I am wondering if that is normal.

torque control can be similar as a partial throttle, and the ESC does'nt like partial throttle...
