Motor and Servo help for a D8T

Good afternoon all,

I just picked up a D8T that I am planning on converting to electric soon. I will be ordering the RCM conversion kit.

It's going to be running a CC MM Pro ESC and a XP 1015 steering servo.

What would be a good motor to use with this setup running on 3-4s? I might upgrade to 5-6s in the future, but right now I have plenty of 2-3s lipo's and I'd like to try and use some of these.

Also, is the XP 1015 enough steering servo for this truggy?

The first motor that I was looking at was the Tekin T8 1700kv motor, but the motor itself is $160.
I'd like to run a sensored motor but it's not a necessity.

Like many others I have had good luck running the MMP in a 1/8 buggy, but for a 1/8 truggy I think the MMM or Tekin RX8 is a better (read: safer) choice. The MMM will be able to handle more power and has a more robust BEC to handle amp-hungry high torque servos.

The XP1015 could probably work, but many people (including myself) use 300+ oz-in servos for truggies, and the 1015 is only about 200 oz-in.

To me the setup you describe is ideal for a buggy, but not enough for a truggy.

MMP will be WTFBBQ trying to push around a 10lb truggy IMO.

Also, 3s will be a little lack luster as well due to the weight your dealing with. 4s would be the much better choice.

I guess I need to rethink my overall plan. I guess I should just wait and buy a whole esc/motor combo all together, most likely a RX8 with a 1700kv truggy motor.

Then get a better steering servo as well.

The steering servo wouldn't be that bad. The bellcrank systems in 1/8 vehicles are very free flowing and 200oz used to be the most torque available on the market so don't let the 300oz servos make it dwindle. Set the BEC to 6.0v and you'll be fine with that servo.

Like I said, the MMPro can handle a truggy as long as you keep it in a cool place with the fan on. I wish you had seen my last for sale post, I sold a Castle 1515 2200kv motor that would have done well for you. Try to find a 2650 Castle 1515 on RCTech or just order one from a dealer.

You'll want 4s though...truggies aren't fun on anything less.

At this point I'm trying to decide if I should just sell the rest of my 1/10th cars and electronics and just buy a real nice setup for my D8T. Or should I just wait and buy more 1/8th scale equiptment when money allows.

Once I drive this D8T will I not want any of my 1/10th stuff anymore?

I wish there was someone who lived close by so I could try out a 1/8th truggy before I decided on all of this.

No problem. I've had at least 50 vehicles ranging from T and E Maxxes to tons of stadium trucks, electric and nitro, 1/10 buggies, 1/8 buggies, MTs, crawlers, sedans, etc.

1/8 truggy is my calling and there's nothing like it. That's just me though.

I think I'm going to part out my SC10 to fund the truggy.

I'm not ready to get rid of the CRT.5 yet, it's been so much fun and durable.

Truggy's are so cool to drive, you'll love it! IMO a 5-6s setup is better for truggy's. I'd go for a cc/neu 1518 1800kv or 1520 1600kv if you can find one. That and a MMM, and 6s. Or a tekin combo, I'd go for the 1700kv and 5-6s.

I run MMPro(with constant running fan), 1518 and 6s 40C 4000mah in my truggy. Working so far

I ended up buying a RX8 2000kv combo, I'm going to run it on 4s and 5s.
