Ultralite 7.5-8 spider diff set:got some questions - 11.23.2011, 02:43 AM

I plan to start on a scratch build.Starting with the diffs. Is the ofna 8 spider set or HB diff set better?
I know the UE-8spider set kit comes with everything needed, but I am going to get backups on screws.I know its probably not necessary, but I always like having extras in case I end up needing any.Is this all the screws for full set of diffs & diff cases?

Ofna 8 spider would be stronger than the Ofna or HB 6 spider setup, more spider gears equals less load on each gear, so less wear & greater durability; seems like around here 6 spider gears just isn't enough for some loonies & they still manage to destroy them

Not sure on the screw question, but this should answer it:

I think, it is correct to say that the ofna 8 spider is better than 6 spider. But not sure if that is also correct when you compare 8 spider and HB 6 spider. This is because, if you look at the material of the spider gears, the ofna/ue 8 spider is made of weak cast aluminium as compared to HB 6 spider hardened metal.

The HB 6 or Ofna Violator 6 spyders are way stronger than the regular Ofna 8's.

In fairness though I was thinking about the Spider 8 gear diffs which have the metal cup, vs any plastic version, so was George probably. I'd take a metal diff cup given the choice but my HB hardened steel diffs have been fine & they only have a plastic cup, so...

Vis-a-vis, the 8 spyders are stronger than the regular 6. However, once you replaced the regular 6 with the HB hardened gears or the Ofna Violator hardened gears, the 6 will be stronger. The plastic cup allows for flex and this is what destroys the internals. The metal cups will definitely make a huge difference. I have the 8 spyders with metal cups in my Gmaxx.
