Mamba Max Overheating at idle -

I've got a Mamba Max ESC that I purchased about three years ago so the warranty is long past up. This ESC has been very good to me and has seen use in at least half a dozen RCs. Recently I noticed though it starts to get hot even when sitting at idle before being driven After about a minute the ESC is very hot and the motor cogs up extremely badly if I try to drive it. I'm guessing somewhere along the lines something got damaged inside.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I've already tried updating the firmware, and it's hard to justify the $50 repair charge plus shipping to and from Canada.
Maybe the BEC? If using anything over 2s lipo and if a servo is getting old, the extra current could be heating it up. Although, the BEC on that ESC is on the bottom board, so for it to heat up the heatsink means it is getting REALLY hot, if that's even the issue.
I've only been using it on 2S for the last few months. It's presently in my Mini Revo powering the 5700kV Castle motor that the ESC originally came with.
hmmm. is the motor demagged and drawing a ton of current? that would explain the high temps and the cogging.
They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.
