Lehner Basic Xl 2400 Brushless - 04.01.2005, 11:11 AM

I saw these motors, and noticed they were more $ than the Feiago 9L.

I would be running 14 cells, so is the Lehner 2400 a good motor with a Warrior 9918?

How does the Feiago 9L compare to the Lehner Xl 2400?

Havn't seen many people use them - is there a reason for this?

Thanks,
Nick.

The 9L is more comparable to the xl2800, while the 10L is close to the xl2400. I use the xl2400, as well as the xl2800, and xl3100 in different trucks. The xl2800 would be the most ideal for 14 cell operation, thoughthe xl2400 would work very well also (and get even slightly more runtim). It will get a slightly better runtime then the Feigao 9L, and is a little more efficient. Most run the Feigao motors due to the price. The warrior 9918 works great with the Lehner motors (these are the motors they were developed in conjunction with). you really can't go wrong either way (Feigao/Lehner).

Which would be best for performance as in power/speed between the 9L and XL2800?

The difference between them would be minimal. The batteries will determine the power output in reality. The xl2800 will seem a bit quicker, while the Feigao will "feel" torquier. Ultimately, performance would be very similar, with a slight runtime advantage to the Lehner and a slight torque advantage to the larger Feigao. Minimal actual performance difference , though.

I have both the 10L and the 2400XL and I really don't notice much difference besides theoretically being more efficient with the Lehner Basic XL and lighter too... and the can doesn't need to be clamped... and I believe it runs just a tad cooler too. Hard to see the difference though. Also, the Lehner XL has a hardened 1/8 inch shaft vs. the mild stell that FeiGao uses so pinion selection is easier with Lehner. Same with bearing replacement. Lehner is easier to replace bearings. The feigao has longer screw mounts so its more idiot proof when it comes to stripping mounting holes and piercing the coils.

So the Lehners are better? Just people buy Feiagos to save money? Aswell as them being popular.

I was wanting to get the Feiago but don't like the idea of having it "pop" using a clamp or not. Like the look of those new Associated heat sink and fans to go on motors too.

I don't use a clamp and my 10L never popped off. I don't think everybody has that problem. Honestly, dollar for dollar, the Feigao is the better deal and value - the slight improvement (if any) does not justify the extra cost.

I agree with Lipomaxx to a point. If performance is the ultimate goal, the difference in price make the Feigao the easy winner. The performance of either motor would be so close, you likely would not notice a diference in day to day running. Even with the heat sink/clamp, The feigao motors are 2/3 the price of the Lehner motor. I race my trucks, so every ounce counts, which is why I like the smaller Lehner motors.

if any is correct - The feigao is my choice and i have the lehners also - I have run the 8L, 9L, and now the 10L - and have not had any of the motor can pop on any of these motors, I do run a heatsink/clamp now just in case - plus they look sweet -

Mike is right - the Lehner is lighter. I think the Lehner motors have the highest energy density per ounce. There is NO wasted space in those Lehner motors and very little aluminum - as a result, the mounting screw holes are like 2-3 mm deep. Personally, I like Lehner for that reason. The Basic XL is about the same size as a "S" size B50 or Feigao S but has the "guts" of the L motors stuffed into a small can. The Basic series I find to be almost as powerful as the "S" but considerably smaller. I might even RACE with the Basic 2100 with 6s with heatsinks this summer with my emaxx!!! Having higher resistance, the motor won't draw as many amps so it's more lipo friendly.

That is one thing that makes me nervous - that little margin for error with the motors screws - I've screwed a screw a little too far once and damaged the windings -
