Hey guys,
I've got a 10lb. E-Maxx 9L/9920 combo right now geared 66/20 on 14cells. The NiMh's just took a dump on me the other day. I would like to go to a 5s with this setup but think that may be a bit much for it. If so, I would like to get a new motor that can handle a 6s .
What is a recomended motor that can handle a 6s with my current gearing & 9920 controller. It will actually be two 3s packs.

10lb. Maxx + 9L & 5s=asking for trouble, unless you have got a 150A controller and flightpower lipo's.

The temps will be high of that motor.

Ok then. Out goes the 9L. So what motor should I get for a 6s and my 9920? Looking more for speed than torque.

I have run a 9xl on 6s with success. I not sure how a 8xl would do.

Well, according to the "motor selector" these are the motor choices assuming you want to achieve a speed of ~40mph:

Wanderer 9XL
Neu 1515 2.5d
1940/9

The RPM of the motor will be a bit high at almost 39,000 rpm though. Probably OK for the Neu and LMT, but possibly a wee hot for the 9XL.

I would like to keep my current controller (9920) and gearing (66/20), so what would be recomended for that?
Also, I am currnetly doing 46mph with this setup (9L/9920 on 14cells) and wouldn't mind a bit more speed.

Just pick a motor that would spin at the same speed on 6s as the 9L did on 14 cells. But be careful, the larger cans spinning at the same RPM will draw alot more current. Probably more than the 9920 will take.

A 12L on 6s would give aproximately the same performance as the 9L on 14 cells. Finding a 12L may be a challenge though. :eek: Not sure If I have ever seen one.

Another thing. If you go Lipo on the 9920, make sure you get a low voltage cut off for it.

This is kind of foolish though IMO. If you are buying a new motor, get the larger can XL motor like a 10xl (as others sugested) and geaar it for the speed you want. It will be a much cooler running more stable system in the long run.

That's weird man.. What's wrong with another gearing..

It's like buying a car matching to the color of your shirt.. Rather uncommon.

Ok, so I'm flexible with the gearing, but not the controller. And you meen to tell me that I'm the only one to ever buy a car to match the shirt I was wearing that day? Truely I can't be alone on this?

It's looking like 9XL and 10XL seem to be the choice for the 6s?

well, if it was your pink day, i must say it's kind of odd Johnny..

The 1940 is one of mothers finest.

But the 9XL would do a nice job too. and choose the 10XL for ultimate runtime.

Can I ask what exactly is your plans for this? Just speed runs. You going to bash it. I bashed a 9xl on a heavier maxx with no probs. The heat stayed good to. Neweuser has the motor now. I tried a 1512 2.5d on 6s. It was pretty crazy. Got a little warm though.
