1/18 Scale Brushless Brakes? -
12.09.2006, 03:27 PM
For quite some time I have been debating whether to build an 1/18 scale. However, after driving a couple of my friend's 18T's (one with stock motor, other with a Reedy Mini-Max) I have found that the brakes on both pretty much dont exist.
My G2R can go from top speed to a stop in a little over 10 feet if traction permits (and I dont flip the truck from applying to much brakes).
So, I was wondering if the brushless motors have better brakes? Cause it would be a hell of a thing to be doing like 60mph with a 8000kv motor and have no (significant) brakes.
Plus, do you guys know which motors or possibly ESC's will have better brakes?
I figure using a Mamba Max will give me better brakes over a Mamba25 (costs is not too important for the motor/esc).
Let me know what you guys think...

go to products then 1/18 scale bl combos you will be happy there you can get mamba with quark 33a(which is better than mamba 125) for 114 and i think you can get the mamba 8k with mamba controler for less than 114

Well, I can get a Mamba Max for pretty cheap, and I think that it will be better than the quark in a few ways. I can use the MM in nearly any other vehicle and I can program it with my computer.
But I may just get a standard 6800 Mamba Competition setup since I can get it for 90 bucks...
Well, how does the Mamba25 compare to the Quark33?

defiantly Mamba maxx i did not read that part of your post i just saw mamba and immediately thought of the mamba 35 controller if it will work mamba maxx should be better because it will work in any car and it goes up to 12 cells but it might be to much for a 1/18(not sure though). I am not also sure of a price on the mamba maxx but if your were planning on paying over 100 you misewell go with the mamba 8000 and quark 33a motor. I am saying this (only if mamba maxx is close to 100) because you get the best micro controller on the market(pretty much) and the best motor (besides c4-to fast-) for about the same price as one controller. Now i know if you did this it would not be inner changeable between cars but with this setup people have reached well over 40 with 6c stick packs and 70+ with lipo. Its your choice if you can get the mamba around like 75 bucks or so and It will work with the mamba 8000 go for it. But if your paying 120 bucks for the mamba maxx and you still need to buy the 60 mamba 8k motor you decide but in this case you pretty much pay about 50 bucks more to be able to switch controllers. You Decide Just my opinions. Did you check out the website, it got some great deals.

Can you fit a mamba maxx in a 1/18th? Seems kinda big....
I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, it has the same footprint of a M25. Maybe a little bigger. But its actually pretty small.

the mamba max is too big, the mamba 25 will work with a little programming. In default its set up for 50% brakes
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Brakes are fair easy on electric vehicles. The motor is somewhat shorted; the higher the winds on the motor, the higher the internal resistance (goes for BL and brushed)
This is where gearing comes around the corner.
The motor is not completely shorted; in fact, when you brake, the energy is stored back in the batteries; so the lower the internal resistance of the batteries the harder a vehicle can brake. the taller the gearing; the harder a vehicle can brake.
