7XL or 8L /w MM on an Emaxx? - 12.20.2006, 02:51 PM

Not sure which way to go here. I'm planning on staying in the 12 - 14 cell range. I'd prefer something that will not blow up the ESC (obviously!) and not run smoking hot.

I see the 7XL draws 95A, right at the limit of the MM, and a bit beyond what cells can supply without too much voltage drop. I looked at the 8L, which only draws 77A, but gives me a more useful Kv rating to work with....but will that overheat?

Any and all opinions appreciated!

Sleebus

I think the 8XL or 9XL would be better than the 8L and they would be easier than the 7xl on the esc, you may have to gear them up for speed, if thats what you're after though

I personally would not run a MM in an Emaxx...

Don't run the 8L. It will get too hot.

I do run an MM with an 8L in my e-maxx. No problems with the MM, but the 8L gets REALLY hot. Next step for me is the 7XL.

I'm running a 7xl and a mm esc on 4s li-po .. no probs here, with a fan on the esc temps are around 98-100 deg. the motor runs around 140's degrees. seems like a good set-up.

crazyjr, in comparison to what phildogg got, what temps do you get on your MM/9XL?? (if you run 4S, that is. Not sure if you still run Ni)

Cool. Looks like the 7XL it is. I'll prolly end up running it on 14 cells. Maybe that will keep me satisfied until the MMM comes along. :)

Thanks for the input guys,
Sleebus

So far i have been hard on it trying to get it to heat up(stop and go, lots of brakes, running on blacktop to strain it) I haven't got it over 139* the 9xl is running about 120 in the same circumstances. This is with a set of 8000mah maxamps lipo's ( new 20c type) and it rips, literally, I tore up the rear diff trying to make it sweat. So i think it will make a good racing setup for mid to short tracks, going to try taller gearing to get some speed
