Rock crawling - 12.22.2004, 08:07 PM

For those who want high end high torque brushless systems in their rock crawlers:

Most people in the car world do not run out runners. They are very popular in the plane brushless seen.

I have a few brushless motors for plane that I am going to be testing. But I do not have any planes, so I run them in my cars. A lot of people think that just because a brushless motor is rate for 2 or more horse power that it will be very fast. That is not always true.

I have 2 Twister Brushless motors:
http://www.twisterbrushless.com/twister-intro.htm

The .90 is a 1500 watt motor. That is almost 2 horse power. But it is a very low kv rating.
1000 W continuous, 1500 W peak (10 seconds).
KV = 430 RPM / Volt (timing 4°)
KV = 500 RPM / Volt (timing 30°)

Planes do not need fast motors like cars do. Now you may asking what does all this have to do with rock crawling?

With rock crawling you do not need to go very fast, but you do need a motor that can push you big electric truck over even big rocks with very little effort.

These are the motors for the job. Get your self a good high end out runner for your brushless rock crawler. I mounted one in my Hyper 7 Buggy just for pictures. When I get a chance I will actually run it to see how it goes.

I have ran AXI brushless motors as well. They both are great brands for this purpose.

I will be carrying the cyclone brushless motors very soon (same company as twister, but the motors are for cars). I will be able to get any of the twister motors, so if you have a request LMK. I haven't yet received my initial order, so I am not sure of the actual turn-around time between when I order and actually receive the products. If it is anything like BK, the turn around time will be slow (2-3 weeks from placing the order to receiving it).

Have you did any more testing on this study session?
I know it is an old thread.
I was wondering if you have done much testing lately.
Any info would be helpful.

Peace!
