BJE New Here! -
02.05.2007, 09:39 PM
Hey guys, I have been to RC Monster before as a guest and have finally decided to join. I have seen a lot of really neat brushless conversions and a bunch of other cool things. I have owned a few cars before and have an RC18t and an emaxx thats stock right now. I have never owned a brushless RC before but I hope to by summer. I have a bunch of different ideas but i just cant decide on what I want. Any car that I decide on will definetly be a long term project because im only 13 and it will be expensive. I hope to learn a lot about brushless stuff and figure out what to get for my next RC.

Thanks BrianG,
I see that you have a hyper 8 conversion. I am thinking about a conversion myself. Whats the hardest part about doing something like that and would it be a good idea for a newbie like me to do?

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Yahm, welcome BJE. The hardest part probably in a conversion is the motor mount because it is compeltely custom for your specific rc.

It really depends on how you want to do the conversion. Some people like the dual battery setup (like I'm doing), but then it leaves little room for the rest of the parts. Or, you can set it up where the motor is on one side and the batts are on the other. Lots more room for the ESC/receiver and the motor mount is easier to make, but doesn't have that symmetrical look.
Then, you can go two ways; just slap everything in there just to get it to work, or take some time to fab up the various parts so everything is solid and "pretty". I chose the latter despite some of the trouble I'm having.
Being a "newbie", I would just look around here at the various setups and see which one looks like you can do. My first conversion was done this way; I saw Dafni's e-Revo and really liked it, so I made it based off his. Since then, I've learned quite a bit from everyone here and have moved on.
The hobby is expensive, but if you are patient and handly with saws, dremel tools, etc, then you can pretty much make most of the parts you need.

If i do a conversion I will more than likely have Mike machine me a mount. I know the machined mount would be better, but would a homemade one be worth it?
BrianG, if I do the conversion I would take my time and do it right the first time. BTW your hyper 8 looks really nice!

Depends on how complex it is. If it's just an angled piece, it should be realtively easy to make. You just really have to make sure the mesh is perfect. But having Mike machine something that's perfect is definitely a step in the right direction as he does very good precise work.

Yeah.. it's indoor... and it's still cold, lol. Very little heat in the building and the pits aren't much better!! I've only been there once so far... it's a long drive for me.
BG nope, that's not my forklift, lol.... just a funny pic I had when I was looking for avatar possibilities I bet the guy driving that needed some fresh shorts!!! :)
