BEC in Micro-T? -
03.01.2007, 09:48 PM
Hey, I have a Micro-T in a box sitting in my room that I was going to sell (its still stealed and brand new). I was going to run it with some buddies, but they never bought one, so I never opened it.
I want to run something with more power than the stock battery, but dont want to drop the cash on brushless. However, I dont want to risk the speed control by running 2S lipo. I was thinking of running the 2S through a BEC first, so the ESC receives only 6v. This should help alot, since the ESC will receive an absolute max of 6v and not stuff like 8.4 on a freshly charged pack.
The stock battery is 150mah, and I heard it runs for like 10 minutes, so amp draw can't be more than an amp or so at most. I figure a 3A BEC should be plenty for it.
Any thoughts?

That should work fine. I would go with the one www.dimensionengineering.com has. It has a built in LVC as well. I to was thinking the exact same thing...

Thats a great site squee - has a bunch of cool products.
Too bad they don't make the "SmartBEC" in 6V. They only make it in 5V. That should still provide a pretty noticable increase over stock, just not as much as I had hoped. I will keep shopping around though.
I also found another problem. Doesn't the Micro T use an integrated receiver/ESC? This would prevent the ability of using a the Cutoff.

Unfortunately, it does...If you open up the Micro-T, could you measure the battery compartment for me please? I just placed an order for a 460mah LiPo cell, and a few small things to build the pack. It should fit, or if not, I think I can make it fit. Its only about 8mm longer...

Are you sure the stocker can take double the voltage it is intended for?

In the manual it says otherwise... It says max is 4.8 and use of Lipo voids it etc etc....

Exceeding the mah rating won't cause any problems other than fitment. Actually, it's better for the battery to discharge less than it's rated for...

yeh it will because they run soo long and heat up the motor, and speedo... the motors rated for 4.8 volts so ur wearing it that mush faster with lipos, and speedo heats up

That's a weak reason! Sounds like some effort needs to be made in cooling if that's true. :)
