well looks like i can only get one or the other atm

personally im edging towards getting some lipos.. then getting brushless later on mayb when the MMM comes out

i've found some 3P2P 8000 packs for under $100 each and they have good enough Amp reading for what i will need
the other reason for lipo is with my current 820 set-up it jsut drains the batteries and they get really hot.. making me think they just cant provide the current but then li-pos will so i will see a boost in performance anyway

or after all this will getting a brushless set-up and running it on ni-hm be best.. altho all i have is 3300, and 3600 pack atm

What brand of batteries are you currently using and what is it you want to do with your buggy/truck/truggie/1/10th/1/8th?

just using some IB3600 atm, but they got real hot :013:
it will be going in my Twin Force..

with 22V i guess i will be seeing 40mph anyway with the lipos...

just wanna reach about 40-50mph but not be so heavy, its got CF chassis, and will be installing some better diffs in it soon..
it will be used for just generally bashing really, i wont be planning on racing it

What brushed twin motor esc do you have that will take 22v? I dont know of one.

The thing about brushless is, its only as good as the batteries, so I would say get the good batteries, then go brushless when you can. Lipo will for sure boost the performance of your brushed setup... As long as you dont fry it with the voltage.


I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

can take 28 sub-c cells so ~33V, it can take 22V easily, amp rationf of 500A and 1000A burst, Apparently :018:

ya my thinking was the same as yours, my batteries will just pull down the performance of the brushless system..
And the motors can take it easily, so i think i will be going with the lipo

balancer

WOW Old school! I didn't think any still lived;) What are you running for motors?
I to would go with batteries in you're case, IB 3600 were a bit of a disappointment

i managed to find one :018: was going for the tekin 420 but couldn't find it
gunna be running one or two 820 motors :024: i wanna run 700 motors, but my motor plate is made for 820 motors... as i think 700 motor would be better but we will see

ya those IB's just weren't as good as everyone raved about, amp draw wasn't there i felt

I used to run a dewalt 820 on 18 cells through a tekin 420. It was a very powerful setup, that motor can draw some serious amps. I would go li-po first for sure. I switched to a 9xl on the same 18 cells and the power was basically the same. Your setup is only as good as your batteries.

Edit: Don't bother with other big brushed motors, 700's, 970's etc. The dewalt 820 is by far the best.

ok cheers :027: i will stick with them.. do you reckon one or two of these beasts is best + ther only $35 :004:

i will go lipo as they do draw alot, i think watts is around 500 ish so on 22V that is ~22 amps
but i know when i put one 7.2V pack on just to test it out.. it started smoking just sitting ther not yet moving when i pushed the throttle :007: i dont think the pack can deliever nearly 70A

Lipos it is then :027: now to find a decent charger etc

I would only use one. Lighter weight plus less amp draw on the batteries. Right now I am running a single 820 motor in my jugg 2 on 6s A123 cells and it is a monster.

how are the A123 cells actually i was looking at them before i saw the lipo packs, are they better or worse ???

A123's have their pro's and con's when compared to li-po packs. The biggest pro is durability. They can be charged at up to 10 amps and you don't need a lvc to protect from over discharge. Their capacity is only 2300mah per cell though. Good li-po cells can put out more power with less weight. A123 cells can be more diffuclt to mount also although that varys from vehicle to vehicle. I went from gp 3300's to these A123 cells and I am very happy with them.

sounds interesting, but ya i saw they only make 2300 cells, but you can paralell them right?
i might look into them also, i saw somewhere that they have 60A bursts ?? but if your running them with a 820 motor and ther not getting hot then it sounds good
what kinda charger do you need as they are 3.3V a cell aren;t they :eek:

I have a Q. too- do you have to use a balancer with them? I have seen the ready assembled packs that have a balancer plug attached, but Im sure someone on here said they never bother to balance their packs since they are always 'in- sync' as it were....

I use the A123 systems charger made specificly for these cells. It charges them in about 15 minutes and balances them everytime it charges.
