brushless ESC to work with HV4.5, 6.5 - 10.29.2007, 04:47 PM

I have a (2) 4.5 and (1) 6.5 novak motors. Will be running it in a e-maxx with 2 2s2p lipos. I'm looking for a controller other then Novak that will work good with these motors. Something that can be use with other motors as well, more volts, expandable. You know faster! With the Novak ESC you at limited to their motors. Somethng around $200.00 but all suggestions will be appreciated.

The Quark and MGM's will work. Obviously, the sensor wire won't be used. The MM would be a good choice if the slotted-stator firmware fix was available...

The Mgm 80 amp is a good price. Atleast it fits the budget. But it looks like it is limited 12 Nihm and 4s. Are those limits a manufacture recommended safety limit? I only have 2s2p right now but also run 7 cell Nihms.

I run my MGM 8012 with a 4.5 motor. It rocks.

That encouraging! What do you run for batteries and gearing? Any heat problems. Thanks.

I run 3S lipos 2200mAh in parallel. I have it in a Custom TC3 truggy with 89T spur and 19T pinion. I have run for close to 30mins and everything was cool. When I say cool I mean the ESC wasn't even warm and the 4.5 was about 2-5 degrees higher then ambient temps which was 80 when I last drove it. I can gear it for much higher speeds, but I think it is fast enough for the moment LOL.

I'm not sure what a TC3 truggy is. Haven't ran into any around here. How does it stack up weight wise to the maxx? I appreciate your help with this. I'm going to try a similar post in the brushless forum. Thanks you two for you answers.

It is a TC3 that has been converted to a 4WD stadium truck. It is much lighter than the Maxx for sure. But the 4.5 or the 6.5 will be more powerfull then the stock motors.

Sound like a nice rc. I like the looks of the truggy. The 4.5 must get it moving along real nice. The novaks run great when everythign is set up right. Just looking for a controller that isn't married to a certain motor or two. Truggies must be fun, lcg, good handling, 4x4, fast!

Very fast. I raced some guys at a parking lot track, they all had touring cars. I gave them a nice whooping, but my M8 kept getting some weird interference.

i put a hv 4.5 motor in my crt .5 (instead of the 9L) on 3s
i ran it in the house and its nuts, the 4.5 wont run in my g3r on 4s w/mm but it will run in the little one on 3s with the mm, so i will be running and testing these setups

crt.5.. mm..hv4.5..3s

erevo..mm..9L(instead of 9xl, which puts it at 42k,will it blow? be hot?)..4s

WOW. You should see this 4.5 in my stampede. Still has a little rough time starting, but he's gone after that. Going to go up a few pinions. Any idea what gearing would be best? I'm going to try 90/16. How about an adapter to trick the esc into thinking two batteries are attached?
