i can't decide on a decent 1/10 for brushless - 10.21.2007, 11:18 AM

i'm selling some of my smaller cars and when they're sold i plan on grabbing a 1/10 electric and of course its going to be brushless. what sparked this initial idea was my brothers stampede after he installed the velinium system in it. thing is a blast to drive. i was interesed in either the rustler vxl or bandit vxl just for simple high speed lawn and street bashing. as i'm getting closer, i'm wondering if i should consider other cars. on one hand, traxxas once again made it really easy to get something very cool right out the box. on the other hand, it would cost about the same price to pic up a dark impact kit and use mamba esc and brushless of my choice. steering servo and rx extra of course. i'm sure i'm overlooking a few other canidits with simular pricing also. but the df-03 would give me 4wd which is very nice to have. i do have a emaxx when i really need 4wd though, and local parts support like most areas show full support to traxxas. any thoughts, suggestion, or opinions? i don't plan on getting/making anything a money pit like my emaxx has become.

I think an electric CRT.5 or Hot Bodies LS10 would suit you well for bashing. Both 4wd and very tough from what I hear. No need to upgrade the diffs either in the CRT.5. I am not exactly sure on the LS10 though. Maybe an owner will chime in on that.

i personally would prefer either of those, i especially like the fact that the ls10 can convert from monster, stadium, ect since they released a few modles from the same chassis. problem is i don't know if i can do the build in the price range. i'm thinking my budget will be $500 + or - including the battery.

The LS10 is superior to the crt.5 if you will be bashing it. It is longer, slightly wider and is heavier duty in all respects. I am a basher, have converted both and sold my crt.5. With careful parts sourcing you should be able to do a LS10 for about $500. Heres a list with aprox. prices to give you an idea.

LS10 : ultimate hobbies 185 inc shipping
Sell nitro stuff : 70-100
Keep HB radio and steering servo, they work great.
MM esc : 120-135 if you look carefully
Feigao l can motor : 9l for 3s, 7l for 2s : about 50 bucks
Home made battery trya and motor mount : 30 bucks

That adds up to around 350 if you keep the HB radio and steering servo. I have used the steering servo and it is fine, plenty fast and has enough torque for the truck. The LS10 is not that heavy, my crt.5 was heavier despite being slightly smaller. A battery mount can be made of a cut down emaxx or stampede chassis, and a motor plate is simple to make too. Not sure if the larger HB lsp motor plate that mike sells would work, but I have one so I can take a look.

i actually just looked up the hotbodies and i wish i had got this info before seven this morning. i also located it for under $190 shipped, and i just spent that on more emaxx parts. i could have held back on those. also i have a gallon of 30% nitro left over from my lst i sold that i wouldn't mind burning up. this gives me the option to use that and gather the parts i want to put into the truck instead of just sticking to a tight budget. i could just run the nitro motor till i burn it up, that probably won't take me too long. i'll probably order one as soon as one of my cars sold.
