Science Olympiad Ideas - 11.27.2007, 10:33 PM

Ok well, I'm in the club Science Olympiad this year (a few buddies of mine are the officers/presidents of the club, and asked me to join).

Anyway, I've been assigned to (well, signed up for, then was accepted to do) 3 events. Those events are Astronomy, Cell Bio (I took AP Bio last year - got A's both semesters and a 5 out of 5 on the AP test), and, of course, electric vehicle (I'm sure you see where this is going).

Anyways, the rules are that we must build an electric powered vehicle that can travel 5 to 10 meters (they will pick a random distance between those figures) autonomously (on its own). Rules are we must start the car by flipping a switch or pressing a button of some sort that sets of the mechanism on its own. They require that we use a stick or something to do this, as we are not allowed to touch the car at all after it has been inspected.

Anyways, one of the rules is that the vehicle must be powered electrically. It has a maximum 4 cell power source (using cells no more than 1.5v each) and we can have up to two packs (to switch out if we must).

It can, however, have an alternative power source to power auxiliary systems (like brakes or something). It has no limit so long as it does not propel the car at all.

Any one have any ideas on this? I wonder if there is some sort of radio receiver that I can pre-program to apply throttle for a certain duration and then brake...cause then I'd just throw in my Mamba System from my 18T LOL

(The goals of this even are both completing the distance quickly, accurately, but also being able to predict the time it will take).
