questions on battery setup - 12.06.2007, 09:08 PM

hey guys i got my crt in and damn that thing is incredible.

the handling is amazing in the air and the thing HAULS!!

i still have my beutifull xt8 sitting around getting nothing done to it. i have the motor mount here but have yet to open it. i also have the 16018 waiting to be used.

i got 2 lipos with the truck and together i get about 30 minutes of runtime. its not horrible but IMO i should get more... i run my evo 25 for about 18 minutes then the hyperion for around 12 minutes. each battery takes around an hour to charge. if i run the evo 25 for around 20 minutes then wait like 10 minutes for it to cool down and the truck to cool down then start running the hyperion (while charging the evo 25) i will have another 15 minutes of runtime (or somewhere around there). after that 15 minutes i would let the truck sit around for like 10 minutes and then after that what can i do?.....

BUST OUT THE A123 XT8!

i figure if i give use 5s2p with a 2.5d or 1y and 16018 it will be a freakin monster.

my only worry is the weight. i think it will be fine since i will have the servos, motor, and the esc on one side. then on the other will be the 24 ounce a123 setup on the other. it will be a pretty sweet fast charging decent runtime 120 dolllar battery.

the only reason im leaning towards the a123 than another lipo is the charge time.

i should be able to charge this 5s2p pack in like 30 minutes with my 1210i correct? if not please tell me because that is one of my favorite things about it. in fact thats the only reason im thinking about it.

if i bring out the xt8 only it will still be an awsome time.

i bring the batts fully charged. i get like a 15 minute runtime. i charge them for around 30 minutes. then go agAIN! and it just keeps going. waiting 30 minutes is fine with me... waiting an hour for the lipos...... not that cool.

plus this will give me 2 RTR trucks. if 1 breaks down i got the other handy and ready to go.

one the hardest things about this will be mounting... i have a little crappy sketch that i did right now and it COULD work.

o and what i meant by 1/2 size.. is that the tray is half the actuall size. i think you all knew but idk.!

idk how this would work but its just a thought. mainly it is just to show how much room i have that is able to be used.

so thats one option. 120 dollar battery ready to go.

ORRRRRRR (this will be shorter)
i have a 2s true-rc 8ah pack and i can just buy a 3s pack (150) and make a custom tray for that. in my opinion it wouldnt really be as smart because of the fact that the 2s is older so it might only have 7850 mah whereas the 3s will have over 8000 but idk. its just another thought.

so im sorry if i bored you guys
im just brainstorming what i can do with the xt8.

hell i might just sell it and use the money for college

thanks for any help...
