Lehner motor temps

Just received a used lehner basic 2400xl from skello and have installed it in my pede. Running it with a mm, ccbec, and 4s 4k 20c lipos. After about 20-25mins I stopped runnning as the battery was fading. Took off the body and the mm was cool, the lipo slightly warmer, 100f, but the leher was hot, too hot to hold. Truck is all stock plastic, and is not very heavy. I am running 54/15 gearing, which should be good for around 40mph or so.

Any ideas why the motor was so hot, but the esc was cool and the batt warm? Should I gear up? Did not think that the 2400 on 4s would be running to high of an rpm. Thought the lehner motors were supposed to be really effecient. My previous setup of a mm, feigao 12s, and 3s 4k lipos with the same gearing got at least 40mins runtime. The lehner is only running at about 36k rpm. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Looking at the speedcalc, this setup should be doing almost 50mph, but it is maybe doing 38-40, not as fast as the feigao 12s on 3s lipo.

I've had that motor before.. and it ran awesome in an E-Maxx on 18 Cells..... I think that motor likes higher rpms(45K+), and lower gearing... give it a shot... because that motor should be able to get about 92%+ efficiency..

Ok, I will give it a try on 5s lipo and see how that works out.

I'd be willing to bet you need more load on the motor. That motor pushed my E-Maxx through low grass at 36mph without getting hot. I'd add a tooth or two to the pinion and see how it does.

How Hot is "too hot to hold"? I think inrunners tend to run pretty warm anyway. Do you have access to a temp gun?

A Stampede really isn't very heavy for a motor that size. I'm running a 7700kv Mamba Max setup in a Rustler with 23/86 gearing and it works pretty good. It makes me think the tires are gonna sling off.

Check your wheel bearings and your drivetrain out also. Make sure nothing is binding.

How does it perform? Any Cogging?

that motor will make that pede fly... it already does over 60 with a basic 5300... LOL, 2400XL.. put wings on it..

I ran a 3100 basic with 20\86 gearing on a 3s2p 8000 mah. I get at least an hour and a half (1.5) of run time. It never got hot for me. Then I changed to a 1920. Not heat anymore. I was getting 45 to 50 mph.
