I will be needing a good machinist soon,

I've bought ( will recieve Dec4th) an Academy SB V2 PRO (4wd buggy), and I will need to have a set of wheel adapters made, the outdrive is tapered and the wheel hub fits over the tapered end. I'm hoping I can find a good machinest who could turn me a custom aluminum wheel hub (would need to be very precision) that would be 17mm instead of 12mm.

I would like to run 1/8th scale street tires on it for some heavy speed runs. I know there are some 12 to 17mm adapters out there for the rockcrawlers but I'd like to steer clear of any possible vibration problems.

Here's a photo of the anodized hub and outdrive to help you see what I mean. The bearings are held in by this part, so too long/too short would be a problem. There is a long screw that holds the wheel, hub, and outdrive all togeather.

I guess I could also have a 17mm ofna hub machined to fit the 12mm hub in it like an adapter, but then the already long screw would be doing ALOT of work to keep it all togeather at 70mph or so...

Perfection would look like an ofna 17mm hub with the back having the taper mounting of the original part (and therefore riding inside the outter wheel bearing) and a 3mm hole through it for the long screw. I would be using the 17mm nut to keep the wheel on just like a regular 1/8th scale.

I want to keep the mod's on the outside of the nuckle so I could swap back and fourth easily. Price in the $50 range?

Didn't want to kill you with reading but, I suppose I should make a few comments about this all before hand. Yes, I have looked into other options. My second route is to get the traxxas 2.8" rims like they use on the traxxas jato as they are 12mm hubs, the only drawback to this is how wide they are I'm worried about stability/ballooning issues at speed. I could narrow these rims but I can't find any narrower tires that would fit.

Touring car tires would fit too but I would like to have a little more surface area on the ground and 1/8th or 2.8" tires would help keep the rpm of the drive train down a bit.

The 2.8 rims on the Jato have a diffferent bead than the standard. There seems to be a very limited selection of tires to choose from. I run the anacondas. These tires also don't seem to take much abuse. I've shreaded them before. I was starting to do donuts in some loose sand on top of the tarmac. Within one 360 the outside tires was in pieces.

i wouldn't use this system with larger wheels, more stress means they will loosen up quicker.

I'm afraid it won't hold.

Robert, I know what you mean, I've read up on the bead problem, Imex makes a 2.8"-12mm rim that has a standard bead. Still the tire choises are limited. I was hoping that using the anaconda or one of the imex tires on a lighter buggy would help to curve wear? That and being consious of not breaking traction...Or going with plan A to run 1/8th tires.

Serum, having this setup come loose has been a problem for some of the guys racing the SB V2 Pro with just the standard 1/10 tires... Loctite has been the fix but I'm up for any other ideas of how to pull this off.

Alot is going to depend on your set up. I know this although I hate to say "Nitro" on this board. In my situation when it self destructed it was on my 3.3 jato I wasn't on the throttle for a full second when it went. You need clean pavement and warm weather to get the best from them. If you spin them a few times they're going to wear out on you. I never tried them on my brushless as it's in my emaxx and those tires are a bit small for that. They balloon alot at higher speeds. I'm guessing once you hit 35 or 40 they really start to grow. I hope you find what you need.

Thanks Robert, I know they can be taped and balanced but I understand the tape will not hold up much over 50mph.

I'm aware of RCMike, from what I've seen he does excellent work. Figure he's pretty swamped with motor mounts (hyper7 is still out of stock) and doing better paying (multiple part runs) work.

I've gotten a little farther with the 17mm hub persuit. I've found some info on using pin style axles with some zx5 hubs. Now I'm trying to find a pin type 17mm hub with the proper size bore for the axles (think they are 6mm).
