Capacitors? - 04.03.2008, 03:12 PM

Hello Guys, i have a Yellow Label Mamba Max, i plan to run 5s lipo on it... I just recently picked up 50 330uF 25v capacitors and would like to know how many i should use on the mm? Can you wire them wrong? and Can u wire them in series or parallel. if so what will it make better

thanks -BB

You can use as many as you want. However, the more you add, the more "spark" you'll get when you hook up your battery pack. Also, it may be tough to mount/solder them as close to the ESC as they should be.

Yes, you CAN wire them wrong. There should be a white stripe on one side (maybe even have a minus sign in the stripe). This is the negative lead. If you wire it backwards, it will puff/smoke/pop.

Wiring caps in series will add their voltage ratings, but reduce capacitance: Ctotal = 1 / ( 1/C1 + 1/C2 + 1/C3 + 1/Cn)

Wiring caps in parallel will add their capacitance, the voltage will be the same as the lowest one: Ctotal = C1 + C2 + C3 + Cn

Metal Man helped me figure out the wiring and took the picture for me.

The only thing that is different is you got 25V, I was using 35V, so I dont know how many you will need.

Honestly I'd sell them and buy the novak one - It is $8 and 2700uf so almost 9 of your caps...

I would use 8 of them in parallel. That gives 2640uF capacitance at 25V. I think a 4V+ margin is ok for handling spikes during braking. Plus, having them in parallel allows much lower resistance and so more punch since the current load is spread equally to each cap.

It will give you more voltage protection but reduce capacitance and get very very big....

Seriously have a look at one of these.
