Is ONE 10w 100 ohm sandbar okay on the +5v bar? - 10.20.2008, 10:05 PM

I just made my first power supply but I used one 10w 100 ohm sandbar on my +5v rail. It's not getting hot and seems to be working fine. But I noticed there where 2 load resistors on my old one.

Will only using one 10w 100ohm be okay?

P.S. My output is only 11.6

I'm charging 4s on a hyperion 0610i duo. The PS is 12v 13A.

You need at least 10 ohms 10W resistor. It will only yield around 11.5 volts on the 12-volt side. You need a 10% load on the 5-volt side to have a good 12+ volts output. I used 6 x 10 ohms 10W in parallel in my PS and voltage does not drop below 12.1 with 12A load.

Perfect, thank you. I'll be picking them up tomorrow.

Re the 10W resistor not getting hot -- V=IR -> 5v=I * (10ohms) -> I=0.5amps -> P=VI -> P=(5v) * (0.5amps) = 2.5watts
