Project "Speedmaxx" -
12.23.2010, 01:19 AM
Yeah, yeah, had to have a quasi gay name...
Anyways, was throwing around some ideas in my tiny little mind and came back to the good old maxx truck. I currently am rebuilding the 6x6 maxx truck with the 2 BPP torpedo chassis, and have a new emaxx chassis that will receive some parts.
So I was wondering what to do with it. Not much of a basher, compared to the lst. Could sell it but I would get 100 bucks or less as a roller and I have a ton of maxx spares.
So I think I will revisit an old project of mine, making a very fast maxx.
Currently the truck sits with a stock 3905 (new emaxx) chassis, lst diffs, and full 3.3 tmaxx hubs, sliders, etc. Missing the trans as I converted it to 2spd for the updated 6x6, but I can score on on ebay.
Want it low to the ground, and to have alot less suspension travel than stock. Thinking 1/2" of up and down wheel travle will be fine. So something like rustler or revo shocks? I want the chassis to sit about 3/4 inch off the ground, low. Maybe a set of 4 1/8 buggy front shocks with some limitier inside? Give me some ideas!
Power system will be a 1717 on 6s, as I just picked up another. MMM for esc duties, and I have a single servo setup. Tires will be foams, I have a set of 14mm hex 5.5" tall foams.
Here is the calc with the highest gearing I can do with what I have here... May have to go back to maxx diffs to get over 100...
Differential Ratio: 3.3076923076923075
Transmission Ratio: 1.8333333333333334
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 34
Pinion Tooth Count: 25
Total Voltage: 29.60
Motor KV: 1580
Tire Diameter (inches): 5.5
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 0
Motor Coil Resistance: 0
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 1.36 : 1
Total Ratio: 8.24718 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 17.28 inches (438.88 mm)
Rollout: 2.10:1
Total Motor Speed: 46768 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 92.79 mph (149.05 km/h)
Effective KV Value: 1580
Will likely start with a larger spur and work my way down. Still need to test fit the 1717 on the tranny and see what gearing will physically fit.
Thoughts? Critisisms? Vauge babbling? Maybe some sort of piss poor gay joke from Bondoscrot?

For Shocks I suggest either revo (cheap) or Front 8ight Buggy shocks. They are shorter than say on Ofna front shock and 15mm...
And for the gearing. I have only the 1520 in my maxx which is about 8-9mm dia. smaller than the 1717 and gearing was always an issue. The max distance between the spur and pinion with the 1520 was ~35mm. so I would assume about ~38 or 39mm for the 1717.
I suggest sticking to 32p and finding some 30+ tooth pinions. EX. for me I could fit a maximum of 58t spur and 26t pinion with the 1520 and youll need a much bigger pinion.
OR FLM makes a 3905 tranny adapter. which sits the motor super low on the chassis dropping it about ~1" to 1.5" But it makes the balance off. So you would need to run a 2s on the motor side and 4s on the opposite side. I had thought about doing this. but I didnt want to buy new packs or reassemble my 3s either...
Anyway GL with this project (I am subscribed) and check my thread for my new CD install as that is another great way to get serious speed. I will only gear 11/44 and that is already at ~50mph on 6" tires.

Ah, I forgot to add thaty I plan to run the erevo motor mount setup as I think I have one of those banging around too. Unless I run into chassis clearance issues I should be ok. I can always shim the tranny up a bit to help with motor clearance.
I will attempt to take some mockup pics tomorrow. Plan to clean off the bench and get serious with rc for a few weeks. Need a break from work and home remodelling...

I was going to mention running the erevo motor mount setup too, just rotate the trans 180 degrees. If motor to chassis clearance is a problem, I think you're stuck making a new motor plate to raise it up. The driveshafts are pretty close to the chassis already so shimming the trans up might be out. I'd definitely consider tossing the stock 3905 servo saver, if its anything like the one on mine its total garbage for bashing speeds, forget about high speed runs.

for an all out speed machine run 4 turnbuckles instead of 8 shocks- no travel
I have a 3905 transmission for you, complete with motor mount spur and gear cover, new never used.
I need your RCM 4mm to 3mm adapter for a 1521, and an RCM XL heatsink/clamp(silver)
What up dog?

also those imex foams are only good to like 60mph. Probably 45 since they are older than Bondo's choice in women.

Somehow I missed your attempted witty replies dawg.
Well, I would not say I missed them, maybe just overlooked them? Everything looks pretty small from up here. Anyways, We be makin' a deal homes.
And yes, bondo likes his women old. I guess as they age their standards drop and eventually they cannot run screaming when he "displays his bondo spreader"...
He also loves the taste of super polygrip, and 2000 flushes blue!!!
