Spinning hexs out of control - 07.14.2006, 08:44 PM

Im rounding out rear wheel hex hubs like crazy. Ive ruined one wheel and Im on the way to ruining the second. Im using lock tight and all too. Problem is if I really muscle the wheel nut my wheels dont spin freely.

I know the answer is those 23mm adapters. Are the prolines any good or is Dace the only choice?

I guess the ultimate solution is aluminum 14mm hex hubs and the Dace 23mm adapters. Then Im buying all new wheels and tires :035:

I dont read about this issue much and Im wondering why its happening so often.

When using an overpowered system the hex will get forced in both directions (clockwise/counterclockwise). The combination of accelerating and braking will stress the plastic adapter and wheel hex. The slack will exponentailly increase because of the power and then it will strip out.

So, to stop all slack from happening you should JB weld the hex in the wheel.

If I do that the pin will spin inside the hex. I would be out a wheel, tire and hub. Dont think it will happen? Been there done that :028:

???

if you glue the hex inside the wheel with proper glue, and the wheels and the hexes are of decent quality, you can't go wrong.

a pin spinning inside the hex? sounds like you use plastic hexes? use the largest pin as possible is my advice.

If you can't stand it, step up to dace/proline adaptors. (daces are my favorite) the prolines keep getting loose.

HPI got smart and introduced 17mm hexes...

The aluminum hexes help out. A set of aluminum rims won't strip either.
I like the 23mm hexes the best. Dace is the best. I have a set proline and have the pin turn 90 degrees inside the hex.

JB is pretty strong, but I believe you can pry it out.

I purchased JB weld today and will try it. It's alot cheaper then Dace adapters, 23mm wheels and new tires.

I will let you guys know what happens :)

I seen on maxx bling ryan drilled a hole and put a screw into the aluminum hex. That may be an option to.
