Flexing motor mount? - 02.21.2008, 12:45 AM

When I did my conversion, I used Mike's motor mount instead of Tekno's. At first, it was plenty tight, I had to grind down one of the end pieces that the opposite end of the motor rests on but nonetheless it was tight.

The poor truck has been through hell in the last few weeks and now my motor mount flexes. I've tightened all the bolts but can still wobble the motor slightly.... slightly so that I think when I back off the throttle, the truck comes to a sudden slow down because I think the spur gear is being pushed harder against because the motor is making the mount flex.

Does anyone have any experience with any other brand motor mounts? RC Monster's mount is great, I think I may have pushed it past it's limits and worn it out already.

Thanks,

Mark

I'd stick to the RCM mounts. Same thing happened to me, except mine was after only one or two bashes with small jumps. My motor was also able to wobble about 1cm, so it was quite a bit. I sent Mike an email, and he replaced it for me for free. Now thats customer service. Just contact him through email, and he should take car of you.

The longer your motor can the more flex you may see on any given motor mount.

Are you using the rear bottom support? If not install it.

I would recommend using a strap/clamp, such as a zip tie, to hold the motor flush to the rear support so that the rear of the motor can can't move up or down. This should solve any flex issues you're seeing.

Thanks guys. I was going to call mike today and get his opinion. I am using the rear mount but the motor doesn't even rest on it now.

I think the whole motor mount is fuddled because by the time you twist the motor to stay parallel with the spur gear, the end of the motor is touching the mount with out the rear mount.

I'll call mike today and get his suggestion. The part isn't defective, it just didn't take my abuse apparently.
